STEELTON AND NEARBY VETERANS MAKE MEMORIAL PLANS Parade to Precede Decoration of Graves; the Rev-. Mr-. Lauffer Orator The memorial committee of Ser geant Samuel W. Lascomb Post, 851, G. A. R. is arranging a program for Memorial Day, May 30-. a A new feature of the decorating scheme to be followed out In the cemetery will be introduced. The committee plans to have the ceme tery divided into elgvu sections. A committee of girls and boys will have charge of each section and decorate the graves in that territory-. By this method the decorating will be com pleted In much shorter time, than In previous years. Forming at the G. A. R. hall at 1 o'clock. War Veterans, Boy Scouts, and school children will march down Front to Chestnut to Second to Pine 1o Harrisburg and to the Baldwin L'emetery, where services will be held. The Rev-. G. N. Lauffer, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church will be the orator. The W. C. T. U. societies of the town will act as a flower committee and will have their headquarters at the G. A. R. Hall, to receive contri butions. There are 120 graves in the Bald win Cemetery to be visited. In the morning the local veterans will dec orate sixty graves at Higlisplrc, and lifty-six at Oberlin. The Sunday fol lowing the graves of veterans in the Chambers Hill and Ebenezer ceme teries will be decorated. Fix Route For Mammoth Patriotic Demonstration Parade route, formation and minor details of the big patriotic demonstration Saturday afternoon were worked out at a meeting of the general committee in the office of the chairman, Quincy Bent, this afternoon. Reports from many of the outlying districts and organiza tions of Harrisburg have been re ceived and everything points to a ; mammoth demonstration, which will j compare with parades of larger! cities. Estimated figures of to-dayi were that forty bands and more than ' 10,000 people would be in line. It is also stated that "great haste is not the main object to he sought nor is it essen tial. The object Is to bring the Na tional Guard into Federal service and begin their training under the super vision of the department com manders." Councilman Here—John H. Bailey, former Pittsburgh newspaperman and now a councilman of that city, was at the Capitol. Ex-Judge Visits—Ex-Judge W. D. Wallace, of Newcastle, was at the Capitol. The Gas Complaints—The com plaints filed by the various cities and boroughs in Northwestern Pennsyl vania may be taken up next month in Oil City or some other place cen trally located. A request to this effect has been made. The commis sion has had complaints the last few days from Venango, Clarion and Potter counties.
