"Liberty Loan" of Two
Billion Dollars Will
Be First U. S. Offering
Washington, May 3. Secretary
McAdoo lias announced that the first
offering of bonds authorized under
the war finance law would be a $2,-
000-000 "liberty loan" Issue, open to
popular subscription at par, and that
subscriptions would be received till
June 16 next. The bonds will be
dated July 1, and will be ready for
delivery on that date.
Although many organizations In
addition to the banks of the country
v, ill bo utilized in floating the bonds,
the twelve federal reserve banks will
bo designated as central agencies in
their respective districts, receiving
subscriptions, delivering the bonds,
and caring for other details. The
proceeds of the Issue will be deposit
ed in as large a number of banks
throughout the country as practic
able, and will bo withdrawn gradu
ally.
Interest on the bonds will be pay
oble semiannually on January J and
July 1. Details as to their denomi
nation, it was announced, will be so
small as to place the bonds within
tho reach of every investor.
Baseball Stars Who
Are Open to War Draft;
Clean Up Both Leagues
New York, May 2.—Some one asked
Ban Johnson if baseball would "suf
fer ' through selective conscription,
and ho instantly resented the word.
Approximately 214 men in both big
leagues will bo drafted if the call i
goes out before the end of the sea
son. One hundred and thirteen of
these will come from the American j
League and 101 from Governor Ten
er's circuit.
The fact that the American League
clubs, for the most part, are being
drilled constantly will have little ef
fect, for what they are learning in
baseball drilling camps would be only
a beginning to the instructions they
would receive in a big arnty encamp
ment.
The only hope for a respite seems
to lie In the fact that mobilization at
the camps probably will not begin
until September, when the baseball
season is rapidly drawing near the
end. A month might bo granted the
men to finish and then report. Tho
world's series might suiter badly.
Senior Members of Tech
Basketball Five Given
Jerseys; Others Get "T"
Coat jerseys were awarded to the
Senior members of the Technical
High , School basketball team at a
meeting of the advisory committee
this afternoon. The other mer. bers
of the quintet who will not gradu
ate will be given tho school "T."
Those to receive the honor were
Manager "Dlnty" Wear, Captain
Charley Pollock. "Eddie" Harris,
Lloyd Ebner, "Bud" Bell, "Haps"
Tingle, "Mountain" Wilsbach and
Carl Beck. "Midge" McGann and
Rees Lloyd, substitutes on the team,
were given their class numerals.
Class numerals were also given to
tho members of the .Junior class
which carried off the inter-class
basketball series. Those who were
members of the Junior team were:

! land, "Dutch" Miller, "Red" Hus
ton, Jerry Frock, Lynn Cook and
"Cap" Smith. Tho election of a cap
tain and manager for next season
was left to ra later date.
TO DISCUSS PLANS FOR
NEW CHURCH ON* KILL
A public meeting will be held next
Tuesday to take up building plans
for the new Methodist' Episcopal
Church which Is to be established
in the Northern Allison Hill district.
The meeting will bo held in the Lin
coln School Building, State and Six
teenth streets. District Superintend
ent Morris E. Swarta will speak. Pre
liminary work will be rushed so that
building operations can be started
iby July 1. It is estimated the church
?and grounds will cost }25,000,
