The Cun nrcl Steamship Company is planningHxj Place orders in the United States for 114 large passengers stearners at a coat of $120,000,000, affording 1 to an an nouncement by agents of the company I here. The announcement was made I at a meeting of representatives pf I many of the largest American ship building concerns in the country who were called here by the Gunard com pany. The new ships, it was said, will range in size from 8,000 to 17,000 tons. While declaring their ability to take care of the contracts ail of the ship builders reported a scarcity of skilled and unskilled labor and it was decided to form an organiation for the pur-, pose of getting more men into the shipbuilding industry. Last month orders were placed with American ship yards for twelve steam ships at a cost of $30,000,000 for the Royal Mail line, a subsidiary of the Cunard company.
