chasing agencies had lifted the price
j of Pennsylvania crude ten cents a bar
rel to $3.05. Other grades were ad
vanced as follows:
Mercer black, eight cents to $2.43;
Corning, eight cents to $2.38; Cabelle,
eight cents to $2.35; Somerset, eight
cents to $2.18 and Ragland, three
cents to SI.OO.
These are the highest prices com
manded by these grades of crude oil
since speculation in oil was stamped
' out by the Standard Oil Company and
I its subsidiaries many years ago.

EXTHA PAY FOR GUARDSMEN
Washington, D. C., Jan. 9.—Mem
bers of the Pennsylvania National |

border will receive an extra month's
pay, if a resolution presented by Con- 1
gressman Emerson, of Ohio, in the
House to-day goes through. The reso
lution provides that Guardsmen who
have served on the Mexican border at
any time during the present mobiliza
tion shall be given this extra pay, and
directs the Secretary of War to make
the payment.

McElroy, sister of President Arthur

House during his term, is dead at At

death was caused by heart failure.
Mrs. McElroy will be buried in Albany.

Climbs to $10,665,738,220
London. Dec. 29. The lnter
| est on the debt created under the
; war loans of 1914-15 amounted
during the llnancial year ended
March 31 last to £38,445,856
($192,229,280), according to a
I white paper issued recently.
| The total capital national debt,
which on March 31. 1915, was
£1,104,967,076 ($5,524,832,380) had
increased by March 31, 1916, to
£2,133,147,644 ($10,665,738,220).

Captain Jack Will Not
Return to the Border
Captain George C. Jack, of Troop C,
(Governor's Troop) First United
States Cavalry, who is home on a fur
lough, will riot return to his command
at the Border. A recent order from
the War Department, extends the fur
lough time of ail officers now homo
on leave. Captain Jack had planned
to start for the south last week. In
the meantime orders were Issued for
the return of the Governor's Troop,
leaving El Puso to-morrow, according
to schedule announced.
