Farmers Not Impressed With Farm Loan Bank Farmers' of this section are not greatly impressed with the farm loan bank scheme as presented by the pa ternal representatives of the Wilson administration in this city yesterday. Most of the Cumberland Valley farm ers declared they could finance their needs much better through the exist ing banks. They couldn't see the ad vantage of a 50 per cent, first mortgage to the farm bank plus 5 per cent, of the loan in the stock of the beneficent institution to be held during the limit of the loan and the other 50 per cent, of the purchase price to be negotiated in a second mortgage for the original owner of the farm, providing he would accept it. Farmers in Central Penn sylvania find no difficulty getting a 70 per cent, first mortgage, and if the owner will not take a second mortgage for 30 per cent, he is not apt to be attracted by a second of fifty per cent. ALL STANDARDS REACT SHARPLY Rails Help List to Higher Levels; Bonds Are Strong New York, Oct. IS. Standard stocks reacted sharply before the end of the first hour, selling variably un der yesterday's final figures. The movement which savored strongly of a bear drive, based presumably on prevailing market uncertainties, was partly readjusted. Kails such as Union Pacific. Illinois Central, Read- j lng. Lehigh Valley and Norfolk and Western guided the list to higher levels. Steel, which had yielded over a point, made almost complete recov ery. Fertilizers in general followed the lead of linseed issues and coppers, petroleums. alcohol, harvester cor portation. National Biscuit and Paci fic Telephone were appreciably better.
