STRIKE TROUBLE
CAUSES DECLINE
Rails and High Grade Issues
Reflect Vague Character
of Washington News
By Associated Press
New York, Aug. 29. Selling be
came precipitate later, Marine prefer
red proving the only notworthy ex
ception on Its advance of 1% points.
Declines were accelerated by the
vague character of the news from
Washington which found further re
flection In the heaviness of rails and
other high grade issues.
Among the weakest specialties was
Studebaker, which broke over four
points on extensive offerings in con
nection with reports of new financing
by that company. Other motor stocks
weakened in sympathy and munitions
and equipments added to early losses.
Pressure relaxed somewhat before
midday with moderate rallies and a
spurt in American Can common and
preferred. Bonds were lower.
