BIGGER, BUSIER AND BETTER HARRISBURG A bigger city because of our great advantages as a manufacturing and trade center. A busier city because of the livewlres controlling our large business interests. A better city be cause of the wide church activities. Now with all these assets, Mr. and Mrs. Suburbanite who live within trolley distance of Harrisburg, why not make this your buying center during the year 1916? It is doubtful If there Is a prettier city in the United States than Harrisburg, with its beau tiful residences and streets, or whose stores give better satisfaction to cus tomers than ours. The line in which the Acme Sign 00., located at 26 N. 3rd street, is most Interested and with which they are most familiar, is "Signs that produce publicity." The orders recently received are keeping them unusually busy and forcing them to work overtime which speaks well for the conditions at this season of the year. Among the signs newly ordered are several electric signs for out-of-town ! companies that are adding Harris burg to their chain of stores, brass signs for hotels, a large quantity of ■ advertising signs for Harrisburg busi . ness concerns, as well as a host of smaller orders. The prospective cus tomer may always rely on the Acme : signs of every description.—Adv. | LAUNDRY GOOD BAROMETER OF BUSINESS One of the best barometers of the ! quantity of business being done in Harrisburg is the laundry. During the ! last few months the hotels of this city have been exceptionally busv and as a result the laundry bills with several : concerns doing the work have been large. At the Royal Laundry plant, located at 1334 Howard street, it was said that the hotels have contributed more than their share of work recently. Bedding, - towels, table linen and personal jobs _ | from the several hostelries not equipped with private plants have ! brought thousands of dollars increase j during the last severqj months. At this season of the year more than two tons of family wash is handled | every week. Only a few years ago the 1 quantity was much smaller and the variety of articles washed decidedly 1 ess. Improved methods of handling the washing of bedding, heavy undergar j ments, etc., have proven to the house ! keepers that the laundries are better fitted to handle the work than are the j homes and their not-to-be-depended ; upon washerwomen. The manner in ! which the flat work and the "all i ironed" wash is being sent back into | the homes each week has attracted the I attention of the women who have tried I \ it. with the result that the Royal Laun- 1 | dry's wagons are being called to all ! sections of the city. If you have i.ot had your laundry j done the "Royal Way" as yet, you j cannot Imagine what you are missing, ! and the prices charged are the most I reasonable that could be imagined. I Just phone for their wagon to call for a sample wash and that is all that will be necessary to make you one of their many satisfied c ustomers. FORMALLY CHARGED WITH MURDERING POLICEMAN A formal charge of the murder of Patrolman Lewis C. Hippie, who was shot last Friday morning while arrest ing two negroes, was preferred against Elwood Wilson, colored, by the coro ' ner's jury at an Inquest last night. The | verdict was given in five minutes and i shortly after Leroy Arms testified that : he saw Wilson do the shooting. James I White, colored, who was with Wilson ! at the time, was accused of being an ; accomplice, the jury recommending j that-White held without bail. ARGUMENT BY AUDIENCE Special to the Telegraph Dauphin, Pa., June 28.—A literary | : meeting will be held this evening at j the lower Stoney creek school house at i 8 o'clock. HARRISBURG TELEGRAPH MOONSHINE COAL GAINS IN POPULARITY The people of Harrisburg and vicin ity are thinking more each day re garding the quality of the coal which they are to till up their bin or cellar with for the coming winter and a ' vast number of these people, yes, we might say a good percentage of them ! have decided that the Moonshine coal i was the kind that they wanted. There is a very good reason for their decision in this matter, up until the : present time few people were aware of the fact that there was not much, if any difference, between one dealer's > coal and another. There is, in fact, as much difference between Moon shine coal and other kinds of coal as there is between a ten-dollar mail order suit of clothes and a fifty-dol- | lar suit made to your order by the best tailor in the city. The people of this city who havei gone so far as to investigate and try i out the different kinds of coal have found that Moonshine coal stands the same with the coal buying public as | moonshine whisky goes with people t who know what kind of whisky that is: Moonshine whisky is the best and purest whisky that money can buy and Moonshine coal is in every sense of the word in the same class the very i best coal that money can buy. It happens that you are one of the people who have never given the matter a thought before, just phone the John H. Gates Coal Company who are located at Tenth street, below i Market, and have them send you a! ton of Moonshine coal and try it along with the other kind that you have« been using and see what a difference ! there is; or better still stop Into the omce of the Gates concern and- have them give you full information re- ! garding the quaity of this brand of coal and you will actually be startled j at the difference.—Adv. WELDING PROCESS USED EXTENSIVELY The welding process is becoming! more and more popular every day. The world is just beginning to realize its importance and its savings. Before the welding process was established, j huge plants, employing hundreds, were' forced to shut down on account of, some important part of their machin ery breaking. By the welding process | the biggest jobs can be done in a few 1 hours, whereas before the discovery of this process a broken piece of ma- ; chinery would sometimes take two or even three week 3 to be repaired. The Harrisburg Welding and Rraz- , ing Company, located at 88 South I Cameron street, is Harrisburg's pioneer welding establishment and has gone a j long way towcrd advancing the weld ing process in this city. The most! skilled labor available is employed and they ipake a specialty of welding de fective boilers, broken parts of ma chinery and all kinds of forged and j cast metals. All orders are given very i prompt attention and every piece of' work done by this concern is guaran- ; teed. If a vital part of your automo- ' bile or machinery of any kind should ; get broken, lose no time in calling No. 455 M on the Bell phone and a skilled welder from the Harrisburg | Welding and Brazing Company will be i on the job in a jiffy. GABLE TELLS (INTERESTING) STORY REGARDING PAINT It seems hardly necessary, perhaps, i in this age of enlightenment and | progress to discuss the relative merit j | of a "hand made" or "machine made" i prod"Ct such as paint. However, j | H. A. Gable who is located at 113 to: 117 South Second street and who ; wholesales practically every thing j that is required in the building and j construction line, as well as being the ' loca' distributor for the Acme White , Lead and Color Works of Detroit, Mich., manufacturers of the famous: A:me Quality New Era paints and I I varnishes, states that back of the! | "machine made," which in itself i ! means not only economy on account ] lot large production at the least cost, ; is the perfection or grinding, the thor oughness of mixture, uniformity of j tinting and all the advantages that I accrue from a perfectly adjusted or- j ganlzation such as the Acme White I jliead and Color Works maintain, and j ; whose sole occupation is to make the I i best paint that can be made. Back of i i the "machine made" paint of the j Acme company is the most modern ! and up-to-date factory with chemi- j 'cal laboratories and chemists who arc I constantly studying and experiment ing to produce better paints. The j j "hand made" paint combined in a ' j crude and imperfect manner by hu- J man muscle and stick or paddle, | i from materials, the chemical proper- I jtiec of which are unknown, or guess- I ed at, cannot possibly compare in re- j sultt combined in accordance with j scientific knowledge that knows just j j what and how much of-each ingredi-| ! ent should be used to make each tint, j | each shade and each color, and how 1 the white for various purposes must j be prepared and manipulated. The painting contractors of Harris-1 burg and vicinity are strong boosters of Acme paints and byproducts, and lln filling contracts for the deeora i tion of many new homes and busi ; ness structures, they will use thou sands of gallons of paint during the I coming season, a large portion of which has already been ordered from j Mr. Gable. Mr. Gable states that In the sev eral industrial buildings that have al ready placed their paint orders with him, a large quantity of white lead, , containing such properties as tend to j reflect all the light possible, will be I uoed. Where concrete floors have been ; laid, a special concrete paint will be I | utilized to good advantage. Con- j j siderable varnish and high grade stain I has been ordered for use in some of [ the finest residence jobs. | We are told by Mr. Gable that as ! soon as the painting season gets in j full swing, the prices of paint are sure j to advance And for that reason he is j advising his customers and the pub- I lie in general to place their orders as j much in advance of the time when i needed as possible. This will enable j him to buy at the present prices and : protect his buyers from any future raises.—Adv. COMPANY MAKES BOYS' WASH SUITS AND ROMPERS The Jennings Manufacturing Com- ! pany of this city who have for years I ! been manufacturing ladies' aprons | which have been sold from .coast to j coast, have added a new line to their i business; that of manufacturing boys': j wash suits and rompers and this line j \ has already been very well received j J all over the country. The materials being used are the j vepy best that can be obtained, and j even with the scarcity of dyes, they j have been fortunate in obtaining all I fast colors. With the wash suits their idea is to see how good they can make them and , not how cheap, as they expect to build ! up a reputation for Jennings' wash 1 suits the same as they have for their I ladies' aprons, however these gar ments are most reasonable in price, | workmanship and quality considered, I and are sold in a popular range of I prices, namely, 25 cents to $2.00 each, j These garments are all made in Harrisburg and are sold by many dif | ferent Harrisburg dealers, among I them are Bowman's, Dives, Pomeroy & Stewart, Kaufman's, William j Strouse and E. M. Sible. Remember j the name next time; ask to be shown ! the Jennings' garments. In this way you are boosting home industry as 1 well as getting the very best value for ! your money. The company is now planning a new and entirely modern building, the construction of which will soon be under way.—Advertisement. F. A.
