AUTO TRANSPORT ATI! >N GARAGK !
Covers Several Different Branches of
the Automobile Business
The new garage of the. Auto Trans
portation Company which has just
opened at 27-29-31 N. Cameron St., is
one of the most modern and up-to
date garages in this part of the coun
try as well as an automobile show in
itself, there are so many different j
departments all under one roof.
One of the most Important depart- j
ments and about the busiest is the
buying, selling and trading of auto- 1
mobiles. Here is a business man who
has purchased a new car and desires ;
to dispose of his old model; anothet
man has got tired of his car, or needs
money and has no other way of rais
ing same, they may bring their car
to this department and it will be
sold for them in a surprisingly short
time. This company sells cars on
commission or buys them from the t
owner out right, or will exchange '
touring cars for runabouts and vice j
versa. They do not charge storage ]
on cars while they are left there to I
be sold. Their terms for selling are 1
, most reasonable. Mr. Kelton. the !
manager of this department, told a
Telegraph reported yesterday, "it Isn't
necessary any longer for a husiness- j
man to worry about selling his car. 1
If he really wants to sell and sell
quickly, just bring the car to them
and let them do the worrying over
the disposing of it." He is a profes
sional in worrying over selling some
body else's car but the worry does not!
. last long as sometimes he sells them
before he has time to think of worry
ing.
Although the above department is
the most important at this garage, !
there are several other departments j
of much importance to the owner of j
a oar. There is about the largest j
room for storage of cars of any gar- !
age in this city. The rates for stor
age are very reasonable and as this
department is open night and day, it
makes the volume of husiness there
very large. Another department that
appeals to the man just buying a car.
or young men desiring to secure a I
position as chauffeur, is that of the
schooling department. Here they j
train young men to become practical
mechanics. They teach them every
thing that is necessary to know about
a car. •
EXCEPTIONAL DEMAND FOR
DIFFERENT LUMBER GRADES !
Building operations have Tieen so t
heavy of late that, the Bogar Lumber !
Company of North Sixth street, who
handle all kinds of lumber and do all
kinds of mill work has had to keep !
• its plant humming, and there is
no let-up in sight. As an out-of-town I
visitor to the plant a few days ago re
marked "the boom of business" could !
be determined by the activity of this j
establishment.
Perhaps no better example could
be shown to Indicate that business
conditions are improving rapidly, al- i
though it can be said that the Bogar j
Lumber Company has been in the |
same business for several years and j
during that period have not' met with |
any reversals in business activity to 1
any large extent.
In an interview this firm declared
that business in lumber and in inter- j
ior and exterior woodwork was never )
betler, and they have been making i
preparations all winter so as to be I
able to handle the large volume of ;
business which will come when the 1
building season gets in full swing, j
They state that prices in lumber are J
going up the same as other eominodi- !
ties anil that the large wholesalers
give the war as the reason for these
advances. Years of experience in this
business have proven that in the times
of rising prices, it pays to buy in large
quantities and be stocked up readv to
handle the trade, as some smaller
companies only buy in small quanti- |
ties at these times and for that reason 1
are not able to take care of business !
that conies when the rush is on. The j
Bogar Company at present have on |
hand a very large stock of all kinds j
and grades of lumber and mill work, I
and state they will be able to take I
care of t he business other dealers are {
obliged to turn down through not hav
ing stock on hand, as well as their I
regular business.
A CAREFUL DRUGGIST
ou feel sick, you visit your family
physician, he diagnoses your trouble,
writes a prescription for the medicine
he wants you to take, you take the
prescription to your druggist and he
prepares it for you. The process of
preparing a prescription perhaps is
not thoroughly understood by the gen
eral public. First, great care has to
be used, then the highest quality of
material and the most important part
is the proper amount of each mate
rial, this last point is where a large
share of the druggists make mistakes.
At the drugstore of E. 55. Gross, lo
cated at 119 Market street, the pre
scriptions are always put up by a
licensed man, who first studies "the
■ prescription, then gets the different in
gredients together with the proper
utensils for compounding same. After
this has been accomplished, the second
person is called who checks over the
work of the dispenser to see if prop
erly put up, then the cost of the ma
terial is figured and a fair percentage
charged for labor and profits. This
system prevents mistakes and dissatis
faction and accounts for the steady
growing prescription business at the
Gross store which is the oldest drug
store in the city, being established in
1820. In 1826 D. W. Gross, the pres
ent owner's father, entered the store
as a clerk and subsequently became
partner in the first drugstore in the
city. The policy of this store has al
ways been maintained, that is fair
dealing, quality and reasonable prices.

HARRISBURG TELEGRAPH!
I MOONSHINE COM; GAINS
IN POPULARITY
The people of Harrisburg and vicin
ity are thinking more each day re
j garding the quality of the coal which
] they are to flu up their bin or cellar
; with for the coming winter and a j
| vast number of these people, yes, j
we might say a good percentage of J
! them have decided that Moonshine '
coal was the kind that they wanted.
There is a very good reason for their
I decision in this matter, up until the
present time few people were aware
of the fact that there was much, if
any difference, between one dealer's
coal and another. There is, in fact, :
'us much difference between Moon- j
shine coal and other kinds of coal as I
there is between a ten dollar mail |
order suit of clothes and a fifty dol- !
lar suit made to' your order by the
best tailor in the city.
: The people of this city who have !
gone so far as to investigate and trv
i out the different kinds of coal have
■ found that Moonshine coal stands the |
| same with the coal buying public as i
moonshine whisky does with people I
who know what kind of whisky that '
is; Moonshine whisky is the best
and purest whisky that money can
buy and Moonshine coal is in every
1 sense of the word in the same class
the very best coal that money can
i buy.
If it happens that you are one of j
the people who have never given the i
| matter a thought before, just phone
! the John H. Gates Coal Company !
who are located at Tenth street, be- I
low Market, and have them send you j
a ton of Moonshine coal and try it!
along with the other kind that you !
have been using and see what a dif- I
| lerence there is: or better still stop in |
\ to the office of the Gates concern and
i have theni give you full information
regarding the quality of this brand
of coal and you will actually be
startled at the difference.
LAUNDRY GOOD BAROMETER OF
BUSINESS
One of the best barometers of the
quantity of business being done in !
\ Harrisburg in the laundry. During
the last few months the hotels of thisj
city have been exceptionally busy, and i
as a result the laundry bills with sev- 1
oral concerns doing the work have S
| been large.
At the Royal Laundry plant located '
jat 1334 Howard street, it was said
that the hotels have contributed more
| than their share of work recently,
i Bedding, towels, table linen and per
sonal jobs from the several hostel
irles not equipped with private plants
have brought thousands of dollars in
crease during the last several months.'
| At this season of the year, morel
than two tons of family wash is han- ,
J died every week. Only a few years i
ago the quantity was much smaller j
I and the variety of articles washed de
cidedly less.
Improved methods of handling the
j washing of bedding, heavy undergar
jments, etc., have proven to the house-
I keepers that the laundries are better I
fitted to handle the work than are
.the homes and their not-to-be-de-j
i pended - upon washerwomen. The j
jnia-Hner in which the flat work and!
I the "all Ironed" wash Is being sent
I back into the homes each week has
attracted the attention of the women
| who have tried it, with the result that
the Royal Laundry's wagons are be
jing called to all sections of the city.
If you have not had your laundry
,done the "Ro.\al Way" as yet you can
;not imagine what you are missing, and
the prices charged are the most rea
sonable that could be imagined. Just
I phone for their wagon to call for a j
sample wash and that is all that will
j be necessary to make you one of their j
j many satisfied customers.
SCARCITY or COMPONENTS
RESULTS IN HIGHER PRICES |
| Paint Manufacturers Inform Dealers!
That Orders for Future May I
Be Affected
Paint manufacturers throughout I
j the country are refusing to accept or- |
! ders now for future shipments of i
paint unless a special proviso is made j
that the price may be regulated. This !
condition, said to be a new one in j
the industry, has been brought about!
by an unprecedented shortage of fun- !
damental components.
The inability of American manu- j
facturers to get zinc and the various '
coloring matters, usually imported
from the now belligerent countries,
has brought about radical increases in ;
prices. Even at the highest figures I
it is impossible to get certain pernia- j
nent colors. Reds, in particular, are j
scarce and others are almost as hard j
to get in quantities.
Mr. Ryder, of the Ryder Hardware j
Stores, located at 6 North 13th street,
and 302 Verheke street, has received I
several letters from the Sherwin- I
Williams people for whom he is local j
distributor explaining why advance or- '
ders are necessary in order to be
tilled in time. The letter explained
that the great shortage made it im
possible to carry large stocks of raw
materials and future orders can be
met only at prevalent prices. Mr.
Ryder has a very large slock of
paints on hand at the present time
but he predicts trouble in filling j
orders when the coming building sea
son gets in full swing and for that
reason Is advising his customers and
the public in general to place their
orders as much In advance of the
time when needed which will enable
him to buy at the present prices and
protect the customer from future
raises.

BIGGER. BUSIER AND
BETTER HARRISBURG
A bigger city because of our great
advantages as a manufacturing and
trade center. A busier city because
of the livewires controlling our large
business interests. A better city be
cause of the wide church activities.
Now with all these assets, Mr. and
Mrs. Suburbanite who live within
trolley distance of Harrisburg, why
not make this your buying center
during the year 1916? It is doubtful
if there is a prettier city in the United
States than Harrisburg, with Its beau
tiful residences and streets, or whose
stores give better satisfaction to cus
tomers than ours.
The line in which the Acme Sign
j Co., located at 26 N. 3rd street, is most
\ interested and with which they are
I most familiar, is "Signs that produce
j publicity."
The orders recently received are
keeping them unusually busy and forc
-1 ing them to work overtime which
speaks well for the conditions at this
j season of the year.
Among the signs newly ordered are
j several electric signs for out-of-town
companies that are adding Harrls
| burg to their chain of stores, brass ,
signs for hotels, a large quantity of ad
vertising signs for Harrisburg business
concerns, as well as a host of smaller
orders. The prospective customer may
always rely on the Acme signs of
every description.
MANUFACTURE SHADES FROM
ARCHITECTS' SPECIFICATIONS
Part of the Spring ciean-up cam
paign in every house and business es
i tablishment is an inspection of the
I window shades. Thoso who have gone
over the shade equipment in the
homes and stores thus far have found
it necessary to replace many which
, have outlived their usefulness as pro
tection against the glaring sun.
As a consequence. Harrisburg con
cerns making a specialty of manu
facturing shades are receiving orders
for special jobs, in large quantities
at this season. D. M. Zeigler, lo
cated at 110 South Second street, this
city, gets a very good portion of this
business as well as a very large
amount of upholstering and awning
business at this season of the year.
Mr. Zeigler is making tip a large num
j ber of shades of special specifications
| at the present time,
j He is also making several large
shades for store windows, Mr. Zeigler
states that lie is well stocked up at
j the present time and is all ready to
j take care of the extra business which
! comes with this season of the year.
He suggests that if you have any work
1o be done in his line, upholstering or
window shades, that you call Rell
number 2715 and let him know. Also
carry a complete line of Belgium Im
ported Linen Slip Covers.
1 WEI-DING PROCESS USED EX
TENSIVELY
The welding process is becoming
1 more and more popular every day.
i The world is just beginning to realize
its importance and its savings. Before
the welding process was established,
huge plants, employing hundreds, were
forced to shut down on account of
some important part of their machin
j ery breaking. Ry the welding pro
cess the biggest jobs can be done in
i a few hours, whereby before the dls
j covery of this process a broken piece
j of machinery would some times take
; two or even three weeks to be repair
ed.
The Harrisburg Welding and Braz
ing Company located at 88 South Cam
eron street, is Harrisburg's pioneer
welding establishment and has gone a
long way towards advancing the weld
ing process in this city. The most
skilled labor available is emploved and
they make a specialty of welding de
fective boilers, broken parts of ma
chinery and all kinds of forged and
cast metals. All orders are given very
prompt attention and every piece of
I work done by this concern Is guar-
I anteed. If a vital part of your auto
| mobile or machinery of any kind
I should get broken lose no time in call
| ing No. 455-M on the Bell phone and
I a skilled welder from the Harrisburg
j Welding and Brazing Company will be
| on the job in a jiffy.

after preparing all winter they are

The Nuss Manufacturing Company

ers of this vicinity and have built
i an envied reputation on the repairing

j various repairs which they are able
to handle in their modern equipped

j The Telegraph reporter was told

that auto owners are having their re
