Miners' Button Strike
Closes Lykens Colliery

Lykens, Pa., May 10.—At a meeting
of the Lykens local of the mine work
ers' union last night it was reported
that all of the members had paid their
dues and received buttons except eight,
and It was voted to return to work at
the Short Mountain colliery this morn
ing. Superintendent Randall, when
informed of the action of thp union,
told the men that the operators had
decided to close the mines indefinitely.
Twelve hundred men are employed
and wages amount to about $2,500 a
day. The button strike took place yes
terday morning, when all the
about the colliery refused to go to
work because about twelve men had
not paid their dues.
