New York, May 8. Stocks pur
sued a more irregular course after tha
first rally, speculative Issues particu
larly Mexican Petroleum, Maxwells,
Crucible Steel and Industrial Alcohol,
reacting sharply with shipping shares
while rails became active at one to
ttvo point gains.
The advance In this quarter em
braced all the transcontinental, St.
Paul, Atchison, New York Central,
and some of the Eastern lines, and
was coincident with intimation that
Washington had agreed in effect to
accept Germany's submarine conces
sions. Prospects of a favorable win
ter wheat report also helped the
movement in these shares. Bonds
were steady.
