" ! the attention of the general commit- I tee of arrangements for the Charity Ball. 11 The committee yesterday an il nounced a portion of the personnel of ■i the honorary committer, and the f plans for the opening of the sale of | boxes. The Honorary I.lst Forty or more names have already i been added to the honorary list and I'hese include many of Harrisburg's well known men and women. Other names are being added daily and by Saturday the committee, it is ex- I pected, will number at least a hun dred. Here are those alreadv en rolled: j Miss Mary Cameron, Dr. and Mrs. John C. The number Is neces sarily limited in order to allow more dancing space. Here is the plan the committee has adopted: The boxes will cost $25 each, the location to be decided by lot. Any purchaser, however, by paying an ad ditional sls will be given an oppor tunity to make his own choice of site, under the "first come, first served" rule. He can exercise this option when he pays his additional sls. Inci dentally the committee announced that the purchases must be made in j person or by personal representative [as the numl>er of boxes is ton few and | the demands too numerous to permit [applications to be handled by 'phone' or matl trrder. Each box will have seating capacity Xor ten. i HUGE RISE IN PRICE OF DRUGS Increase of From 250 to 1,800 Per Cent. Due to Use in Mak ing War Material A rise in the price of drugs if the war continues much longer is inevit able, according to druggists. Nearly every time a pharmacist fills a prescription at its original price he loses money, it was declared to-day, and the conditions cannot continue in definitely. The present high prices of drugs and chemicals have never been equaled, even in the times of our own Civil War, it was said. An Increase of 1800 per cent, in the price of phenaCetin since'the outbreak of the war is quoted by the Pennsylva [ nia Pharmaceutical Association in a ilist which shows the more remark [able jumps in price. Others showing extraordinary increases in prices are potassium bromide, quinine and car bolic acid. Many of the drugs, such as belladonna, owe their inflated price to the fact that they are largely culti vated In and exported from Germany and Austria. The coal tar products are now high because many of the basic substances are used In the manu facture of explosive*;. Carbolic acid is used in the production of picric acid or lyddite and quinine is high because of the groat demand for it in the treat ment of febrile conditions among Iroops In the trenches. A list of percentage increase in many drugs, issued by the Pennsylva nia Pharmaceutical Association, is as follows: Increased Per Cent. Acetanllid 400 Belladonna 700 Caffeine 250 Phcnolphthalein TOO Potassium bromide 1500 Quinine 1200 Sage 500 Salol 800 Antipyrin . 400 Carbolic acid 1000 Calomel 200 Naphthalene 500 Phenacetin 1800 Potassium permanganate 700 Saccharin . 800 j Salicylic acid 900 iThymol 800 BI.OOD STAINS ON HAT Win. HE ANALYSED The stained nat taken from Nikolo Kotur. charged with the murder of Yoao Haklc, both of Steelton. Is being: held by District Attorney Michael K. Stroup and will be turned over to City RacterlologUt George R. Moffitt later in the week. It was said to-day. Owing to sessions of the January Criminal Court, the hat has been held by the diatrict attorney. Dr. Moffitt said that the condition of the stain* on the hat would determine how soon lie could tell positively whether or not they were human bl lod spots. As soon as he receives the hat he intends to analyse the stain*. Kotur. at the preliminary hearing, said that the spots were caused by arid dropping on his hat while lie was working at the Pennsylvania Steel Company. ACID STOMACHS IRE DANGEROUS "Acid" Stomach* are dangerous he cause acid irritates and inflames the delicate lining; of the stomach, thus hindering: and preventing the proper action of the stomach, and leading- to probably nine-tenths of the cases of stomach trouble from which people suf fer. Ordinary medicines thai act mere ly upon the stomach Itself are ueeles.K in such i ase», for they leave the source of the trouble, the acid in (he stomach, hs dangerous as ever. The acid must In neutralised. and its accumulation l)r< - vented, and the best thine for this pur pose in a teaspoonful of Biaurated Mac-, nesia. a simple antacid, taken In a l|tti»> warm or cold water after eating, which not only neutralizes the acid, but also prevents the fermentation. Foods whlc'i ordinarily cause distress may be eaten with Impunity If the meal Is follow d with a little Blsurated Magnesia which can be obtained from any druggist and should always be kept handy.—Adver , lisciuent. 5
