States Steel depressed that stock half
a point to 86Ai from which it promntly
rose to There were further sub
stantial gains in certain specialties, es
pecially motor Issues, but rails were
dull and narrow. Anglo-Krench notes
for future delivery made the new low
quotations at 95%.
Early gains were effaced when re
newed selling of steel caused that stock
to full back to Its low price of the
opening. War shares, some of which
had scored decided gains, lost much of
their improvement on advices from
Washington pointing strongly to a tax
on manufacturers of munitions. Rail
way shares evinced greater heaviness,
with most of the leaders under yes
terday's closing prices. There was
considerable activity In some of the
very obscure and low-priced mining
stocks .that movement, however, elicit
ing no public Interest. Bonds were
heavy with a further decline in Anglo-
French notes to 95%.

Federal Officials Say Munitions
Strikes Investigation Is
Warming Up
New York, Dec. 9. —lmportant and
unexpected developments have oc
curred in Ihe government investigation
into the alleged activities of Franz
von Rlntelen and associates to Incite
strikes in munition factories. It was
learned to-day from federal officials in
charge of the Inquiry.
For the first time to-day it was offi
cially admitted that certain German
and Austrian consuls may IK* men
tioned in the rei»ort of the grund jury.
It was also stated that one of the sub
jects which has been given close at
tention by the jurors was the strike at
the General Electric Company's works
at Schenectady last summer. Tlio
General Electric Company has largo
contracts.with the allies for munitions.

"Abie" Cohen, awaiting trial in court
on two charges of robbery, will get a
free trip to Philadelphia. Joseph
Ibach, city detective, who cleared up
the robberies at the Simms and Na
tional Supply stores, located some of
the stolen goods in Philadelphia. In
order to recover the stolen property,
Cohen must Identify the person to
whom he sold tlio goods. He will be
taken to Philadelphia to-morrow or
Saturday.

this evening in conference with physi
cians of the City Health Department
to discuss changing the city milk
regulations to make them standard
throughout the year. One of tha
changes advocated in making the bac
