MARKET CLOSE
WAS IRREGULAR
New Haven and Tobacco Show
Slight Weakness; War
Specialties Slow
New York, Nov. 27.—Trading to
day called for no specific comment,
except for the weakness of such widely
, separated issues as New Haven and
American Tobacco, and further mani
pulation in shares like General Motors,
I Cuban-American Sugar and Allis
[ Chalmers preferred which scored new
high prices. New Haven fell 1 % to
72% and Tobacco dropped 12 to 216
|on thef largest turnover of many
weeks. Representative stocks were
more or less neglected and war spe
cialties moved within relative narrow
limits, fjome up and others down. U.
S. Steel was supplanted as the most
active stock by Inspiration Copper,
with strength in other minor metals.
Tho-closing was irregular. Bonds were
steady.
Specialties were among the only
features of interest on the resumption
of trading to-day, rails and other
standard shares recording no changes
of note. Cuban-American Sugar added
7 points to its recent high record at
158, Sears Roebuck rose 2% to 170%
and American Can, Lackawanna Steel,
Texas Company and Baldwin Loco
motive were about a point better. IT.
S. Steel and some coppers were frac
tionally higher, while Guggenheim,
Marine preferred and American To
bacco were 1 to 2 points under. Can
soon lost its rise Aid the list in gen
eral became more uneven. New Haven
fell a fraction under its recent low
price at 73 %.
