A thrilling runaway took piaee on Wednesday morning in East Main street, as a re sult of which Jacob Mohler. a farmer Jiving about one and a half miles northeast of Ephrata. is suffering from ■< compound fracture of the arm Mr. Mohler had driven to Ephrata with his iwo-horse team, and after loading the wagon with manure, the horses started on a run down the alley, and in an effort to stop them Mr. Mohler fell and a rear wheel passed over his arm. When the horses had reached East Main street, which has a rather steep grade, they came In contact with the delivery team of J. C. Arbegast. baker, and there was a general mix-up, during which the broken wagon was thrown on top of the manure wagon, the horse running along for a short dis tance with the vehicle in this position, when the three horses fell in a heap. 1-ast Friday evening was a notable one in Cocalico Lodge. No. 400. Knights of Pythias, of Ephrata a delegation of twenty-five members of Acme Lodge. and another delegation of ten members from Moherton Lodge, paying their Ephrata brethren a fra ternal visit. The third or rank of Knight, was conferred on two can didates by the deeree team of Cocalico Lodge. Checking up his monthly accounts, which work was somewhat complicated by the mass of correspondence he has re ceived since the announcement that his pet hen. Queen Elizabeth, had beaten Lady Eglantine, former world's record holder. In egg laying, W. 8. Geremeyer, of Carlisle, found that he ! had a couple of additional marks s| i by other chickens of his flock. From seven hens, in 34 3 days. Gere | meyer's records show he secured 2,- 107 eggs. Queen Elizabeth led with j 343 in 34S days, from November 3, | 1914, to October 13, 1915. Carlisle ' Girl was next, with 323 eggs from November 5, 1914. to October 13, 1915; and Bonnie Bellaire laid 322 in the same time. Four other hens laid in the same period, respectively, 288, 280, 276 and 270 eggs. The moulting season stopped the layers. The birds are of a mixed strain; i Queen Elizabeth is a Black Minorca with a strain of Rhode Island Red, weighing four pounds to the ounce; Carlisle Girl is a Spanish Black, cross ed with Black Pit game, and Bonnie Bellaire is a White Leghorn, crossed with Black Pit game. Enraged Bull Instantly Killed by Shotgun Charge Montandon. Pa., Nov. IS. —James Best had a narrow escape from belni{ gored to death by an enraged bull at his home on Monday afternoon. His life was saved by the arrival of his son, Merrill, who succeeded in driving off the animal with a pitch fork. A telephone message was sent to Angus Fairchild who arrived in a short time in an automobile and he was also at tacked, but having a shotgun he tired, killing the animal instantly. This was the second attack on Mr. Best by the animal. Last summer he was badly Injured when he was attacked in his barnyard by the beast. P. J. Roberts, Frank Fries and Adam Stahls are having their houses wired for electric light. The spacious parlors and wide stair way of the handsome old colonial home had been tastefully decorated with autumn leaves, chrysanthemums and pines, with a bower in a corner where a marriage bell was suspended.
