Oil Shares Were Substantially
Higher; Coppers Are Less

New York, Nov. 12. Gains of one
to two points, some of which were
soon extended, featured to-day's early
dealings in war shares and other is
sues coming under that specification,
while automobile stocks, notably
Willys-Over'.and, recorded greater ad
vances. Oil shares, particularly those
of Mexican origin, were substantially
higher, but Coppers were less conspicu
ous. United States Steel at 87% rose
half a point. Consolidated Gas of
Baltimore, newly listed, opened at
111% to 112. Aside from fractional
gains in Union Pacific, Southern Pa
cific, Canadian Pacific and Erie, Rail
ways figured to no extent in the initial
offerings.
