PENNSY TO PLACE $11,000,000 ORDER 9,000 New Freight Cars to Be Built; 6,000 For Lines East The Pennsylvania Railroad has asked for prices on 9,000 freight cars to replace old equipment. They will cost close to $11,000,000. Six thou sand of these cars will be for the lines East and 3,000 for the lines West. This is in addition to the approxi mately 10,000 cars ordered in June, and upon which deliveries are now being made. Of the June order, 7,643 cars were placed with outside car builders and 2,102 will and are being constructed in the Altoona shops. The company also purposes making rapid strides towards the use of a heavier steel rail. For several years ! the company has been buying 125, pound rails in small quantities and so satisfactory have they proved, that of the 175,000 tons for 1916 delivery, 85 per cent, will be 12n-pound rails. These rails will be rolled under the specifications of 1915 which were adopted after the rolling of some 12,- 000 tons of experimental rails.
