frage workers are feeling very much
encouraged over the success of the
meeting held at Williams Grove last
week, which was marked by splendid
co-operation and exceptional interest.
—The public schools opened on Mon
day with a large enrollment of pupils.
—Mrs. Augustus Reinoehl and daugh
ter, Miss Leah Reinoehl. of Lancaster,
were visitors in town. Miss Manetta
Kilmore. who teaches school In Shiloh,
N. J., left for that place to resume
her duties. Miss Ruth Lloyd has re
turned from a visit to Seattle, Wash.
—The W. C. T. U. held e joint meet
ing of the mothers' department and
the franchise department on Thursday
evening at the home of Mrs. Alice S.
Hauck. Mrs. R. H. Thomas had charge
of the former and Mrs. Charles Martin
of the latter. On Tuesday evening
Mrs. B. Reily Shope entertained the
Mite Society of the Church of God at
her home. The following persons par
ticipated in the program: Miss Etta
Miller, Miss Claire Fortenbaugh, Miss
Romaine King. Miss Orca Miller and
Miss Violet Bowman. Harvest Home
services will be held In the Brethren
in Christ Church this afternoon at 2
o'clock and this evening at 7:30.-—Mr.

turned from a trip to the Pacific Coant.
—Mrs. E. C. Gardner was the guest
of her daughter. Mrs. A. J. Snyder,

Grace Adams has recovered from her
recent illness. A festival will be
held by the Rescue Hook and Ladder
Company this evening on the lawn of
the enginehouse. Music will be fur
nished by the Singer Band. Miss
Martha Schafhirt left for Myerstown
on Monday, where she teaches school.

day morning the stork arrived at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schreffler
with a bouncing hoy. Mrs. David
Gratz, one of Lykens' well-known resi
dents. has been confined to her home by
illness for some time. She Is now
slightly Improved.—The Lykens school
building, which has been undergoing a
complete change. Is nearing completion.
The Fall term will open with several

Greencastle. Pa.. Sept. 11.—Green
castle was visited by robbers on Tues
day night when a number of stores
were entered. The Witmer garage
was broken into and the automobile
taken, but evidently the thieves were
unable to run the car. for the ma
chine was abandoned on one of the
street crossings. At the toll gate east
of town the robbers secured thirty
dollars in money. The Franklin
Sunday School Association met In an
nual session in Greencastle this week,
with about one hundred delegates in
attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Warren
Grove entertained at dinner In honor
of Prof. Harry Grove and his bride.
Covers were laid for twenty-five.
Mrs. E. O. McLanahan gave a very in
teresting talk on "Woman Suffrage"
before the W. C. T. U. on Tuesday
evening. Carpenters have com
menced work on the remodeling of
the Winger block in Center Square.
