Market Square Players Lead Cove
nant in Singles; Honors Even
in Doubles
The annual tournament between
tennis clubs of Market Square and
Covenant Presbyterian Churches will
end Saturday. Several sets of singles
have not been played. They are in
cluded in Saturday's schedule.
To date the clubs have broken even
In honors in doubles. Market Square
players thus far won the majority of
the matches in the singles. There is
etill a chance for Covenant players to
Increase their number of victories.

Finds Work Ahead

turned to-day from a month's stay at
Eaglesmere. Superintendent McCaleb
will be a busy man for the next two
weeks. Plans were started today for
taking care of the hundreds of offi
cials and railroad supervisors and en
gineers who will stop off in Harris
| burg at the end of the first day of
the annual inspection,
j Inspection starts at Pittsburgh Tues
day, September 21. This is five days
| earlier than usual. The change was
made because of the formal opening
of the electrified branch of the Penn
| sylvania Railroad between Paoli and
I Philadelphia, which may take place
! during inspection week.
Trains are running daily from
Paoll to Broad street station. During
the past week the tests have been
very satisfactory. It is proposed to
add two or morf trains each day in 1
j order to test out the carrying power j
jof the overhead wires. That the otfi- j
jejals feel certain of opening the new
branch this time, is indicated in the I
! preparation of the employes, who will
jbe assigned to these trains. Men are
now bfeing drilled for various positions
in Philadelphia.

In the final game in the Enola Shop
League yesterday the Air Men won
over the Clerks: score, 5 to 0. These
teams were tied up for first place.
Team No. 1 won the Enginehouse
League pennant. J. Augustus Ring
land is manager of this team.
Handsome silver cups wUI be
awarded the winners in these two
leagues. On Saturday the Shopmen
and Enginehouse players will line up
in the first of a series of five games
for the railroad championship of
Enola. Winner of this series will re

Church is being remodeled through
out. C. Day Rudy, of Harrisburg, has
the contract to do the frescoing, which
will take about three weeks' time. A

Several Players May Return For
Post-Season Series; Richmond
Takes Final Game
The final appearance here of the
Harrisburg Internationals as a regular
Indian aggregation was to-day. The
team arrived from Richmond, early
this morning and left this afternoon
for Toronto.
Some of the players may return for
a post-season series which is being
arranged for celebration week. An
all-star team will be selected, to in
clude Eddie Zimmerman, Schacht,
I.ee, Mensor. Mowe, Tooley and play
ers from Richmond, Providence and
Buffalo teams. Secretary Douglass is
now arranging for attractions. If suc
lessful he will announce the dates for
the games by Monday.

blue sky disaster has hit the Phillies.
Bill Klllifer, than whom there is no
better catcher in the National League,
barring, possibly, Snyder, of St Louis,
will probably be lost to the team for
the remainder of the season. He in
jured his right arm in the Labor Day
afternoon game in a way that means
he may never recover the full use of
it. So the Phils were a doleful lot
when they reached home last evening.

Forest Hills, N. Y„ Sept. B.—A new
national tennis champion was crowned
here yesterday when William M.
Johnston, of San Francisco, defeated
Maurice E. McLoughlin, also of the
Golden Gate City, in a grueling four
set match for the singles titles.
The youthful Californian dashed the
hopes of his more famous Inter
nationalist by winning at 1-6, 6-0, 7-5,
10-8, and thus preventing, for another
year at least, the former champion's
hope of clinching permanent posses
sion of the huge silver ail-comers'
bowl.

Harrisburg Brakeman
Fatally Stricken
James N. Prescott, aged 41, 1820
Penn street, a brakeman on the Phila
delphia division of the Pennsylvania
Railroad, died suddenly last night in
the Coatesville hospital. Death was
due to acute indigestion superinduced
by heat prostration.
Brakeman Prescott left Enola at
8.30 last evening on an eastbound
freight. He acted as helper to the
fireman, and had just returned to the
cabin from the engine when he was
overcome. The train was stopped at
Coatesville and the sick man removed
to the hospital. He died about 10.30.
Mr. Prescott is survived by a widow,
Mrs. Jane Prescott, and four children,
Mrs. C. Y. Brown. Mabel. James and
Earl. Services will he held from the
late home to-morrow evening at 7.30
o'clock. The Rev. J. E. O. Smith,
pastor of the Fourth Street Church of
Christ will officiate. The body will
be taken to Elizabethtown for burial
Friday morning at 9.25 o'clock by
Undertakers Hoover and Son. Services
will be held at 10.30 in the Dunkard
Church at that place. Burial will be
made In Mount Tunnel cemetery. Mr.
Prescott was a member of the Broth
erhood of Railroad Trainmen, and the
Pennsylvania Railroad Relief Depart
ment.
TO ORGANIZE AUXILIARY
At a meeting to-night at the P. R.
R. Y. M. C. A., a Woman's Auxiliary
to the Mutual Beneficial Association
of the Pennsylvania Railroad will be
organized.
