Greencastle, Pa., Aug. 28.—One of
the big features in connection with
the Franklin County Sunday School
convention here Sept. 9 and 10, will
be the Teacher Training alumni re
union on Thursday afternoon. James
W. Barker of Harrisburg, State presi
dent of the Teacher Training alumni
will deliver an address. The Pan
Piper's Glee Club held a most en
joyable "Corn Roast" yesterday at
Moss Spring. The wives and sweet
hearts of the members were the
guests of the club. The Misses
Grove entertained on Friday evening
in honor of Mrs. Harry Grove, whose
marriage took place in June. Mrs.
Belle Hostetter was the hostess of a
very enjoyable bridge party Tuesday
evening. Mrs. Robert entertained at
live hundred on Thursday evening.
The party was one of the largest so
cial functions held in Greencastle this
summer. Structural work is pro
gressing rapidly on the new high
school building. Contractor Hilllng
er has the walls almost completed.—
The marriage of Miss Nellie Kuhn,
daughter of Mrs. Mary A. Kuhn to
H. M. Newsbaum, of Nebraska, has
been announced. The young couple
will make their home at Crawford,
Neb. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Davison
left Monday for a trip to the Panama
exposition. Miss Daisy Dailey has
returned to Baltimore, after a visit
with Mrs. J. W. Homer. Miss Kath
arine Johnson, of Franklin, VV. Va.,
is the guesr-of Mrs. C. P. Omwake. —

1 .owistown, Pa., Aug. 28. —Among
the 250 veteran canalmen, who at
tended the reunion at Rolling Green
Park, was H. A. Waters, of Lewis
town, one of the oldest canal boatmen
in the State. Mr. Walters followed
the canal back in the fifties, boating
up (he West Branch of the canal. Mr.
Walters is living here at the age of
76 years, in good health. In Civil
War times he was a member of the
Famous Logan Guards of the First
Defenders. Later he became a grocer
and coal dealer here, and was in busi
ness many years. lie served as coun
cilman from the Second ward.

recess of 15 minutes will be inaugu
rated. All pupils are required to be

The Rev. Herbert S. Garnes, who has
been absent for a month on a vaca
tion, will conduct the morning serv
ices in the Lutheran Church to-mor

Enders are on a trip to Philadelphia,
Ocean Grove, Asbury Park, and New
York City. Mrs. Wilber Holt who
spent a week as the guest of Dr. J.
W. Neff has returned to her ho'me in
Maderia. C. D. Enders was at
Northumberland on Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira P. Snyder motored
to Harrisburg on Friday. The
farm of Mrs. Wiliam Keefer was sold
at public sale for SB4O to Mr. David
Koons of Lvkens, who will take pos

Grandfather's Clock 175
Years Old at Lemoyne

Lemoyne, Pa., Aug. 28.—David S.
Eshelman, of 414 Hummel avenue, is
the owner of a grandfather's clock
which, according to a local jeweler, is
in the neighborhood of 175 years old
—estimating from the make of the
works. The watchmaker stated that
he believes the clock was made be
fore eight-day clocks were invented.
Mr. Eshelman obtained the clock
from his grandfather, Thomas Hamil
ton. of York county, and he had se
cured the relic from a York county
man. The present owner has had the
clock for nearly 35 years and his rela
tive held it for more than 50 years.
Mr. Eshelman also owns an old
fashioned looking glass which is more
than 100 years old.

son, Dewitt Fairchild and his wife.

Gettysburg Pa., Aug;. 28.—The mis
sionary school that has been In session
at the Theological Seminary since the
latter part of May closed last Wednes
day. The twelve voung people who
were here to attend the school have
left for their homes to spend a short
time before going; to their work In the
mission flelds of India. William K.
Welkert. former County Commissioner,
of Sit. Pleasant township, met with a
painful accident Tuesday afternoon
when two fingers of his left hand were
severed while he was in the act of re
moving a congestion of straw from a
threshing machine. The source of
water supply at Llttlestown has been
condemned bv the State authorities.
Two wells in the outer part of the
town furnished the water, and upon
examination by the chemists It was
found that this was not lit for drink
ing purposes. Dr. Samuel Dixon, of
the State Health Department has con
demned the water. H. K. Raffens
perger and Miss Anna Carey, both of
Arendtsvllle. were united in marriage
at the home of the bride, at 4 o'clock
Sunday morning. The wedding was a
very quiet affair and was a surprise to
the many friends of the young couple.
—Professor Stephen C. Lelnlnger, of
Heading, has accepted the position of
teacher in manual training In the
Gettysburg High School. ln stepping
from a boat landing at the Masonic
Camp, .T. Harry Holtzworth slipped
and fell, breaking: his right leg just
above the ankle.

YORK COUNTY COUPLE MARRIED AT DILLSBUR

MR. AND MRS. CLYDE B. SPAHR
Dillsburg, Pa., Aug. 28. —On Th ursday morning Clyde Spahr and Miss
Velva Hamme, representing two prominent families of this section were
married by the Rev. C. E. Heffleger, pastor of the Dilisburg Reformed
charge at the parsonage in Harrisburg street. Mrs. Spahr is the youngest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hamme a prominent farmer of Franklin town
ship. Mr. Spahr is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Roert Spahr, of South
Baltimore street, and is employed In the Air-Brake Department of the
Pennsylvania Railroad shops at Lucknow as an inspector. They lett
for Atlantic City, where they will re main for some time and upon their
return will reside in Dilsburg.
