of the active specialties advanced
strongly at the opening to-day move
ments elsewhere were small and the
market as a whole was narrow. Crucible 1
Steel was the center of speculative ac
tivity. It was bid up 3% to 92% the
highest price on record. U. S. Alcohol
also made a record by rising 3% to 69.
Bethlehem Steel, long the most con
spicuous of war stocks, was less ac
tive. It rose 1% after being quoted
fractionally under yesterday's close.
Railroad shares were listless but firm.
