Hazleton. Called to Shamokin
where her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth
Tershing, fell down statrs and broke
her neck, Mrs. Thomas Glennen, of
Beaver Brook, tripped as she entered
the Tershing home and rractured her
right arm. Fred Tershing, grandson
of Mrs. Tershing, is in the hospital at
Shamokin where his right leg was
amputated following an accident.
Lancaster.—lt is estimated that the
hailstorm which passed over Northern
Lancaster county, Thursday evening
damaged or destroyed tonacco in the
fields to the extent of a hundred thou
sand dollars. Havana seed tobacco
which had already been topped, was
the greatest sufferer.
Hazleton.—John Patonl, 17, of Mc-
Adoo, employed as a jig runner at the
Honey Brook colliery, of the Lehigh &;
Wilkes-Barre Coal Company, met
death when his leg was caught in an
elevator and torn away at the hip.
Tamaqua.—Tamaqua Lodge of the
Order of Independent Americans dedi
cated their $30,000 hall ana apart
ment building last evening with im
posing ceremonies.
Shamokin Police throughout the

Mildred Compolo, a young girl, who

loaded with about thirty young people

A delightful lawn party was held
on Thursday evening at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Hench, where the
Ladies' Sewing circles of this place
and New Germantown and a number
of friends were entertained.
The Young People's Society of Chris

held a picnic yesterday in Sherman's
Park.

BARR HOLLINGSWORTH DIES

Hollingsworth, died at his home here
yesterday after an Illness of three
' years of tuberculosis. He was 23 years

PECULIAR ACCIDENT '

Elizabethtown, Pa., July 24.—Benja
min Longenecker, of near town, while
i assisting to load wheat yesterday aft
i ernoon, wa» badly Injured by having
his nose caught In a hay hook. Think-
I ing the hook was away from him, he
! started for the front of the load and
was drawn by his nose until the hook
| tore through the skin. He fell un
conscious and lost considerable blood.
It required fourteen stitches to sew
the wound.

PENROSE FUNERAL

'Miss Mary Penrose, aged S4, a cousin
; of Senator Boies Penrose, was buried
iin Mountain View Cemtery at Hazle
j ton yesterday. Miss Penrose was a
| native of this place, but died at
I Elizabeth, N. J., where she had made 1
| her home the past fifteen years. She
•was a daughter of the late N. P. Pen
rose.
