Attracts Attention
Cars of unusual length are being
handled at intervals at Enola yards.
These cars are being Used in hauling
steel for the Hell Gate bridge, New
York, from Ambridge to tidewater.
They were built at Altoona shops es
pecially for these shipments.
These cars are only 80 fefet lri length
and have a hauling capacity of 150,000
pounjls. Cars of ordinary height above
the rails would not permit ot the pass
ego of the steel bridge sections through
th« tunnels on the main lirte of thfe
Pennsylvania railroad. With shorter
cars, two cars are necessary to carry
one of the large steel chords and fcer
mit safe passage around the cufves.
The material for the bridge is being
built at the American Steel ahd Iron
Company's plant at Ambridge.

June Efficiency Tests
on Middle Division
During June the Middle division
efficiency tests showed a percentage
of 99.9. There were 21,885 tests made
and only four failures were noted. One
engineman was reprimanded for fail
ing to recognize two torpedoes, twenty
five others making the test properly.
Another ensineman was reprimanded
for exceeding a 12.5-mile speed limit,
for failing to comply with the 14.8-
mile limit another engineer was repri
manded, while 1,257 conformed with
this order successfully. During the
observation in service tests a cut
watchman was reprimanded for sleep
i ing on duty while working on or about
tracks. There were 1,921 other track
| men who made the observation tests
J without failing.
Date For Big Reunion
Is Saturday, August 28
The date' of the annual reunion of
the Philadelphia Division Veteran Em
ployes' Association in Ha-rrisburg will
be Saturday, August 28. This is two
days later than the date announced
previously. The secretary, H. J. Babb,
•stated last night that Saturday is al
ways the best day for the reunion be
cause of many employes having a half
holiday.
The general committee in charge of'

Jdt. Gretna, Pa., July 16. To-day
witnesses the beginning of the end of
Camp 6cha.il, the annual instruction
camp of the National Guard of Penn
sylvania.
Shortly before 10 o'clock the strains
of "Auld Lang Syne" swept across the
main parade as the band of the Thir
teenth Infantry led the regiment to
the railroad siding where its train of
Lackawanna cars awaited the soldiers.
The train pulled out for Scranton a
few piiriutes after ten o'clock, the
Ninth Infantry following for Wllkes-
Barre an hour later. *
The Fourth was scheduled to leave
for Allentown at noon, the Eighth for
Harrisburg at 1 o'clock and the Sixth
for Philadelphia and towns nearby at
2 o'clock. After that there was left
of the great camp only the First Bri
gade. comprising three regiments from
Philadelphia.
Mt. Gretna will not be deserted by
soldiers, however, for yesterday a de
tail of men from the Fifth United
States cavalry at Fort Myer, Va., ar
rived to make preparations for the
regular cavalry men who will partici
pate in the Joint camp of Instruction
for militia and regular army cavalry
week after next. Troops detailed from
Fort Myer are making the trip over
land on their mounts. The big

lor, 903 North Second street, who has
heen local manager of the Bell Tele
phone Company, Lewistown, Pa., has
been appointed chief clerk to the dis
trict manager, Scranton. Mr. Taylor
entered the employ of the telephone
company as salesman at Altoona May
8, 1912. He was appointed local man
ager at Lewistown on December 1,
1913. He will enter his new duties as
chief clerk within a few weeks.
Howard B. Whitmoyer, another Har
rlsburg boy, who has been in the em
play of the Bell Telephone Company,
Altoona, as salesman, since February
S, 1915, succeeds H. W. Taylor as local
manager at Lewistown.
TREAT FOREIGNERS AS-REBELS
Mexico City, July lfi., — General
Pablo Gonzales, commander of the Car
ranza forces in this city, has issued a
proclamation asserting that foreigners,
no matter what their nationality, "will
be treated as rebels" if they aid in any
way the work of the reactionary party.
