U. S. STEEL SHOWS
SOME IRREGULARITY
Trading in Stocks at Opening of
Today's Session Was Dull;
Standards Neglected
By Associated Press
New York, May 2 6.—Trading in
stocks at to-day's opening was dull,
in striking contrast to the previous
day's initial dealings. Such interest as
was manifested centered almost wholly
around the war specialties, the more
important of which recorded declines
ranging from fractions to over a point.
This was partly offset by moderate
advances in other shares of the same
group and in coppers. Republic Steel,
common and preferred, were promi
nent for their strength, gaining 2 %
and 3 % points, respectively. United
States Steel showed some irregularity
and standard stocks were almost neg
lected.
