REDUCED TO 9 MILLS Commissioner Bowman Offers Or-. dinance Authorizing Half Mill Difference in Rate llarrlsburß's tax rate for ill 15 wasi llxcil at nine mills, a hall' mill I'IHIIIC tIon from the present nitllage, l>y an ordinance offered in City Council tills afternoon by C'onuiiissioncr Harry !•'. Bowman, Superintendent of Public Safely. The tax levy measure was intro duced in connection with the 1915 budget whicn calls for an estimated expenditure during next year of ?552,- 102.73. The budget will likely be passed finally on Saturday at a special meeting. The general maintenance ordinance is based on estimated receipts—in cluding between $50,000 and $55,000 balances from the present year—of $580,000. By Commissioner Bowman's figuring there should be at the close of 1915 the comfortable balance in the city treasury of $27,897.27. Original Kstimate $5118,855.17 The original estimates called l'or an outlay of $568,855.47. No provision is made for the third public improve- I ment loan because this was taken core I of for 1915 by the present year's bud get; the appropriation of $13,590.7-1 ! for sinking funds for the second pub- | lie improvement that had also been ] included in the original 1915 budget was lopped oIT. Commissioner Bowman said to-day i that the half mill cut is made possible ! without any radical change in the as-1 sessments. The report that an in crease of the city valuations would ! be forthcoming at the coming trien- | nial assessment was without founda- ; tion. lie said. Of the nine mill levy lixed by the , millage ordinance to-day 2.18 mills will be set aside for sinking funds and ! the remaining 6.82 mills will be used , for general maintenance. The principal items that will lie pro vided for this year will be an addi- j tional hundred dollars per year raise ' in salary for Captain ©f PoDtee Joseph P. Thompson and Assistant City Clerk : ltoss It. Seaman which will make tlfc-ir salaries $1,300; $2,500 for an automo bile truck to be used in connection ; with the proposed new city asphalt j repair plant; sixteen additional cluster | lights and iifteen new arc lights.
