POSTMASTER SITES
WOULD LIKE TO SEE
POSTAL HALF HOLIDAY
But He's Inclined to Believe
"Wash" Logue Wants to Go
Back to Washington
August dog days, hot and sticky—
Saturday afternoons —postal employes
—does this combination suggest any
thing? Deduct the postal employes
from the situation every Saturday aft
ernoon and you arrive at the answer.
In other words, it is now proposed to
extend the half-holiday movement to
the ranks of Uncle Sam's postal em
ployes.
The initiative comes from Congress
man J. "Wash" Logue. well-known
Philadelphian. The congressman took
a walk down Chestnut street the other
day and found postmen sticking let
ters under doors that were closed to
avenues of trade, a sensible idea
originated by John Wanamaker. So
he proposes asking Postmaster Gen
| eral Burleson whether it wouldn't do
to give the postmen a half-holiday.
What Sites Thinks
"Well." said Frank C. Sites, post
master, to-day when asked what he
thought about this, "I think Logue is
a candidate for re-election. It makes
i a nice newspaper story—kind of fills
iin for the hot days. Personally, I'd
like to see it. hut I don't think the
Postmaster General will he able to
do it."
Later Mr Sites said about the only
way the thing would work out would
be to have the matter optional with
postmasters in town, since the
half-holiday plan among business men
is observed on different days in differ
ent localities—in some towns on
Wednesdays and here in Harrisburg
on Fridays. The plan would work out
all right if the persons living in resi
dential sections would be willing to
submit to delayed deliveries for half
a day, he thought.

"The distgrace of our American
conization is the divorce mill which
grinds out thousands of divorces each
year. To-day giddy youth and evil
men and women are practically acting
onthe theory of trial marriages. They
say they will get married and if they
do not like it will get divorced and try
some one else. Such practices are a
disgrace to a so-called Christian civili
zation. If I were a' judge on the bench,
I would never grant a divorce, except
on sustained charges of adultery. It
is all wrong. It is destroying our en
tire social system, making a burlesque
of marirage. and sending children out
into the world without parents to train
them.
