RIVER MAKES RICHES
FOR LOCAL Ml
Wakes Up After Floods Recede
to Find Himself Owner of
Much New Land
By Associated Press
Realty holders or real estate pro
moters who wake up of a morning and
find that their holdings have been in
creased overnight are few and l'ar be
tween. Yet one Harrisburg real
estajte holder has had this experience.
Of course it didn't take place like an
Arabian Nights' dream, in just a few
.hours, but the increased holding re
sulted after a few Spring rains up
State and a river that carried the loam
and sand from the north.
Last year the islands west of Inde
pendence Island, owned by C. E. Ens
minger, who conducts a garage at
'1122 Green street, were two separate
land distinct bodies of land with a con
siderable space between them. But
when the Spring floods cleared away
and boatmen put over there they found
that what had been two islands before
were now but one. Hence Mr. Ens
mingev>s richer by many square yards
of land than he was at this time last
year. And, according to rivermen,
when land is once formed this way
along the islands at this point It keeps
011 being added to each year. At pres
sent the added patch of land is only a
barren stretch of sand. But later,
only perhaps in two or three years, it
will be covered with' vegetation and
become real property which may some
day be of considerable value.

FREIGHT RATES HAVE
EFFECT ON MARKETS
St. Paul's Decline Due to Failure of Public to Subscribe
New Bonds
By Associated Press
I New Yrk, June 11. A decline In St.
Paul, from which there was but slignt
recovery, was ascribed to disappoint
ment In finaclal circles over the failure
of the new bonds to be more readily
absorbed. This was regarded as indi-
I eating an unsatlsfoctory investment
| situation. The movement all through
the morning sesion was extremely
apathetic, with some buying on reces
sions. Tobacco specialties were Inclin
ed to droop. Such discussion as bore
upon the market dealt almost entirely
with the freight rate situation now be
fore the Inter-state Comerce Commis
sion .which, it was authoritatively de
clared, is sure to be announced by the
end of the month.
Bonds were steady.
