FREIGHT RATE CASE

Prices Hovered Within Half Point of Yesterday's Close

Hy Associated I ress
New York, May 12. Prices hovered
within half a point of yesterday's close
dining the morning, except for a few
issues affected by specific Influences.
Weakness of Missouri Pacific and a
further rise in sterling exchange rates,
presaging further gold exports, tend to
restrict speculation. Effort to realize
on speculative holdings on the slight
opening rise, disclosed a thin market
and prices sagged on light offerings,
the ruling quotations of the morning
showing a small decline. Expectations
of an early decision in the freight rate
case held up the market, but bulls
found it impossible to attract a follow

wrecked last year on Lord Palmerton's
Island, in the South Seas, according to
reports brought here to-day by the
British bark Antiope.
The Antiope. tacking in to the
island last November to view the
wreck, discovered the marooned mari
ners. but was unable to take them off
owing to lack of provisions aboard.
Several of the shipwrecked men had
married native women and were con
tent to remain.
When the Antiope reached New-1
castle it reported the wreck and a
French cruiser was sent to the relief
of the crew.

attention to the wails of the men in
duced to oppose the meeting.
The speakers included the Rev.
