HEAVY UNDERTONE
DURING MORNING
Market Grows Quiet After Early Selling Movement Had
Spent Its Force; Bonds Easy
By Associated Press
New York, May 8. The market
grew quieter after the early selling
movement hud spent its force and par
tial recoveries were made In some In
stances, but the heavy undertone per
sisted through the morning. Failure of
the market to respond to yesterday's
highly favorable crop report depressed
the bulls and encouraged a short sell
ing. Concentration of attack against
particular stocks uncovered a degree of
weakness which affected the whole
market. Chesapeake and Ohio, in par
ticular, was poorly supported, falling
- s i to 49, the lowest figure for .six
years.
Bonds were easy.
