($500.00) dollars, conditioned for the

citement of the first half hour had sub
aided the market moved slowly, and
began to reflect influences aside from
the Mexican situation. The better com
plexion of the foreign financial news,
and the fact that the dreaded London
settlement was proceeding smoothlv,
w-ere responsible for considerable for
eign buying. Purchasing of copper
metal wa« on a larger scale here and
In Europe.
The shorts continued to bid as It be
came more evident that selling had
been overdone. Prices hardened after
the reaction which followed the open
ing bulge, although at noon the list
eased oft slightly once more.
Bonds showed a better tone.

MEETK SUE DIES
Mrs. Anna Middleton Smallwood
Succumbs to Attack of Acute
Indigestion
Stricken while she was attending a
meeting of the Society of Friends last
night In the Ackdemy of Medicine
building, 319 North Second street, Mrs.
Anna Middleton Smallwodd, died at
noon to-day at her home in Paxtang.
She was 78 years of age.
Mrs. Smallwood came to Harrisburg
after a dinner last evening to attend
services of the Society of Friends. So
far as is known she had not com
plained of feeling unwell, and the at
tack of acute indigestion that over
powered her shortly after the begin
ning of the service, was sudden and
alarming. Services were suspended
and the worshippers at once called a
taxicab and took Mrs. Smallwood to
the offices of Dr. J. Harvey Miller, 19
North Fourth street, not far distant
from the meeting place of the Society.
After restoratives had been adminis
tered the aged lady was removed in
the same auto to her home In Pax
tang. Throughout the night a vigil
was kept at her bedside, and It was
believed this morning that she was a
great deal better, but suddenly before
noon the condition of the aged suffer
er took a turn for the worse and death
resulted In a few minutes.
Of Old Quaker Family
Mrs. Smallwood belonged to an old
Quaker family of Philadelphia county,
and she will probably be buried at
Frankford, near Philadelphia, although
funeral arrangements have not yet
been completed. Her husband, William
Smallwood, who died two years ago.
Is buried at Frankford.
Two sons, survive: Alvin, a member
of the Philadelphia bar, and Thomas;
who Is In he flour and fee<} business
in this city. There was such a marked
improvement in the condition of Mrs.
Smallwood this morning that her son
came over to his place of business at
433 Herr street.

Augsburg Church
The Harrisburg Christian Endea
vor Choral Union to-day announced
the May music festival will take place
in Augsburg Lutheran Church on
May 5.
The choral society has been re
hearsing on Thursday evenings for
some time In the Sunday school rooms
of Market Square Presbyterian
Church. This week's rehearsal will be
held to-morrow evening at the regular
place of meeting. It is expected that
there will be a large attendance at
the rehearsal—practically everyone ol
nearly 100 members.
The members are most enthusiastic
about Professor Frank A. McCarrol
and his earnest way of conducting, aS
well as the degree of efficiency to
which he has brought the society.
The union will sing the cantata,
"The Redeemer." The soloists for the
concert included Mrs. Roy G. Cox, so
prano; Mrs. H. L. Hertzler, contralto;
M. D. Hollenbaugh, tenor and George
Sutton, baritone. Miss Emma Lorena
is the pianist und E. B. Wase, organ
ist. The piano and organ will be used
together during the concert.
