Making Inventory of All Passenger
Cars So They Will Be Imme
diately Available
With a view to being ready to take
care of the troops when a call is made
for volunteers, the Pennsylvania rail
road yesterday issued an order for on
inventory of all passenger cars and
their location.
Officials of the Pennsylvania rail
road have been in close touch with
the Adjutant General's Department
from where will come a requisition
for ears and within twenty-four hours,
all passenger cars available between
Pittsburgh and Philadelphia will be
sidetracked at the most convenient
point for taking care of the troops.
Any movement of soldiers from this
point will be in charge of A. 13.
Buchanan, division passenger agent
of the Pennsylvania railroad, who has
headquarters in the Telegraph build
ing. Mr. Buchanan will provide the
necessary equipment. W. J. Rose, di
vision freight agent, and his forces
will have charge of the movement of
the tents, horses and other war neces
sities, most of them coming from the
State Arsenal. Not less than 100 pas
senger cars will bo needed at this
point.
Knglnecr Dies. —David 11. Lewis,
aged 38, an engineer on the Middle
division of the Pennsylvania railroad,
died this morning shortly before 3
o'clock at his home, 1610 North
Fourth street. Mr. Lewis was an en
gineer on the Pennsylvania railroad
fourteen years. He was a member of
the Brotherhood of Railroad Train
men, the Relief Association and the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen
and Engineers. Mr. Lewis is sur
vived by his wife, one son and two
daughters. No arrangements for the
funeral have yet been madee.
