continued during the morning. Trans
actions in the first hour, usually the
most active period of the session, bare- j
ly exceeded 30,000 shares. Fluctuations J
in only a few cases escaped fractional
bounds.
Bears sought to make capital from
reports of backward business condi- '
tlons and extensive retrenchment by 1
railroads, but were able to arouse lit
