MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN FRANCE
DOES NOT CARE FOR PARIS
MME. LEXNE GEORGES REBOUX
New York. March 19. —"From what I have seen of New York during my
short stay here I must say that your city is wonderful." Thiß was tile
comment of Sine. Leona Georges Keboux, frequently called the most beau
tiful woman in France, who is here with her husband, M. Paul Reboux, the
noted Parisian editor and writer. "I am not a suffragette," continued Mme.
Reboux. "1 live for my husband and my art. After all a woman was not
made for battle and worry, at least not a French woman, and that is all
that suffrage seems to mean. When my husband is writing lam paint

What Is the Value of a
Beard? Court Inquires
By Associated Press
Washington, March 19.—What is j
| the value of a beard? That is the
; novel question which the learned jus

The case in point is that of E. A.
j O'Sullivan, aged about 65 and a promi

lvalue of ?60,C(i0 on a growth of his
| beard. O'Sullivan, who formerly was
j district attorney, State Senator and
city attorney for New Orleans, claims
that he was forcibly deprived of his
hirsute adornment on election day In
November, 1908. On that day, he as
serts, Paul Felix, r. justice of the peace
in the parish of Jefferson, La., and
William W. Stiles, a deputy sheriff.

of others from voting. O'Sullivan

Lobby Investigation
Halted by DeKnight
By Associated Press
Washington, March 19.—Members
! of the Senate lobby committee to-day
found themselves confronted with the
task of solving a legal problem af
fecting their authority. The commit
tee's investigation into the alleged
i lobbying activities of Clarence W.
1 DeKnight, a Washington attorney,
1 was halted yesterday when DeKnight,
on the advice of counsel refused to
produce certain books and papers as
serting that the commin.ee had no
! jurisdiction over matters not now
pending before Congress.
! The attitude of the lawyer was laid
I before the commmlttee by Chairman
Overman. Testimony showing that
DeKnight received SI,OOO from a ship
building company In payment for un
successful efforts to defeat legisla
tion against the use of the Panama
I Canal by railroad-owned ships, was
i reviewed and It was said that addl-
Itlonal evidence concerning DeKnight's
relations with this company was con
'sidered highly important. If the com
mittee should decide it cannot compel
production of the desired papers, tho
1 Senate may be asked to give the nec
essary authority.
