County Commissioners Are Consid
ering Question as to Time
of Levy
Fqr the first time
ft since be-
PM|M| the time of assess
ealled to the attention of the County
Commissioners to-day.
Three of the properties which had
been sold ea.rly in .February or the
latter part of January were turned
over to the County Commissioners
with a request for exoneration. The
tax rate was fixed for the year ending
in January.
The question the commissioners
raised was whether or not the prop
erties had been purchased before the
tax rate for 1014 was levied. The law
provides that the lieu or charge for
taxes against the property becomes a
fact upon the date the tax rate is
fixed. This problem will be left up to
the county's legal adviser.

MARKET IMPROVEMENT
LIFTS UNION PACIFIC
Street Assumed No Definite Aspect Until Shortly Before
Noon; Bonds Steady
By Associated Press
New York, Feb. 18. The market as
sumed no definite aspect to-day until
shortly before noon, when there was a
general rise In prices. Prior to that
time the movement was narrow and
hesitating. Selling of Great Northern,
Pfd,, and Union Pacific gave the list at
times a reactionary trend.
The Improvement which eventually
took place lifted Union Pacific, United
States Steel, New York Central, Penn
sylvania and L.ehlgh Valley a point
over yesterday's close, and other lead
ing shares nearly as much. New Haven
made up most of a loss of I^4.
Bonds were steady.
