make the following statement with. relining, to
my acquaintance with the remedy Sod testa of
which I have subjected it, and the, masons for
having introdoced it to the notice of priveltehientls
in the community in which I reside, long before
the medicine was advertised. I make this state-
ment freely. because I have, sea principle, with
held my name from all penult mediciuse, and eerie_
loudly abstained from recommending them to the

public, believing them frequently the spawn of
quackery and humbug, and a tending to increase,
instead of lessening huntau Jimmie and suffering.
Ruch, I fear, is the ohmmeter of a large pottron of
the patent patiscesq of this medicine-making age.

BUT WHAT IS THE ROCK
ROSE?
The following history of the Rock Rose petit
and to medicinal properties, we take item the

set in a true light the nature of • ,plent which
promises to be universally beneficial.
We are indebted to the United 'rates Diapen
'story of IVO, fur the following deactiption
.f it;
' ie entirely different from the common Ross.
It is a leo-stemmed, oblong lest plant, having a
bitter taste. In addition to • rsmattah{a pecu
liarity of the plant, of bearing two crops of flow

and beautiful property.
Dr. Eetoa says that in the months of November
and December, he has seen hundreds of tbrse
plants.sanding out, near their roots, bro.d, thin,
curved icaroryabils, about an inch in breadth,
which melted during the day, and were renewed
moininc. For a more minute and analyti
cal description of it, the reader is referred to Tor
rey & Uray'e botanical winks.
Its Mediral History and Properties are far the
most important, sines upon these depends its val
ue to the community. Dr. Loudon says that in
1799 it was so valuable, that it was cultivated
from seeds. Ever since 18u6,
