The parents were verr much alarmed.
Horif, houee, house, id the cry in

procuring suitable house has increased

We wonder where this meeting was held,

ome pUca in town ? Truly the days ol
'drk lantern assemblages are at present

Itc answer to an imagined inquiry, the
Republican recently said, that the reason re
plies were not made to articles published in
ibe Star was that ut do not enter into argu
ment, but merely blackguard. uch asser
'tion may go for what it Fs worth, and may
te said to be true er false by ou"r readers.
V do not fear but that their decision will
'b'e right .
Bat we noticed an article Tn the Republi
'can of last week, which we suppose was
iutended by the editor as argumentative,
and ail: was Tn 'reply to matter of the Star
wecoofider It proper lo give our readers
the benefijof a knowledge of the ability of
that editor lo argue.
The Star, in re la (Ton to ihe Negro Suf
frage "question ia the District of Colarnbia
"Said: ''The citizens of the. District of Co
lumbia Toted almost- onanimonsly against
the bill to enfranchise negroes."
The Republican replies, admitting the fact,
tied then gitea the folio wing orcioe argu
ment. "And why? Because it was not a black
man that killed Abraham Lincoln no a
black man that sought to entrap Andrew
Johnson into a friend-like and fatal plot
not a black man thai invaded the mansions
of Secretary Seward and made a slaughter
pen of bis bed chamber."
Isn't that an incontrovertible argument.
We acknowledge our inability to argue a
question against such sentiments. We are
unable, even, to comprehend the meaning
oi this. We tan'! see the point.
