foil T II 13 CAMl'-MCiW. OI-' 18Go. Ths political campaign just opaning in Pennsylvania ia declined to be one of great importance, and to have a powerful influ ence upon the future of the? country at lare ?a a rreat measure it will determine l h" gubernatorial contest of 1866, and hare an Influence upon the presidential election two years thereafter. tfnt, more important, it will probably determine the choir of the nest U. S. Senator from thi Stats and thu afT?ct tlie legislation of Con?re.? and the renormion of peace to the land. It is, therefore, of vital importance that every exertion should be made by every member of our party, to secure the victory. Not only should evely Ircal organization be pnt lo work, but every honorable measn should be adopted to stir up the apathetic and lukewarm, and to make new voles by cnrj vmion. It can only be through the im mutable and golden principles of Democra cy that the country can be redeemed lrom the thraldom of fanaticism, degradation and taxation. Outside the Democracy there are no principles. The rule of action of the opposition is ever changing odo thins to day something elae to-morrow. It is held together merely by expedients the latest .and most outrageous of all be in;; the mod ern, six-months political trick of nero suffrage. To defeat this, and all other scheme of the Abolition-shoddy hordes wht live only to plunder and tyrannize, let every Democrat arouse and gird on the rusty armor of his faihprs in Democracy of Washington, of Jefferson, of Jackson, and march to battle and to victory ! THE WEEKLY-PATRIOT AND UNION. As the Central oran of the Democral'c party the Weekly Patriot ami union- has acquired a lare and more diffused circu lation than any other Democratic journal in the Slate. Il has heretofore occupied an influential position as an able and in dustrious worker in the cause of Democ racy, and its friends say that it still contin ues to be a valuable organ of the party. It is not for us , however, to puff onr own ' work. If we have been faithful to the cause of the party and the country, we hope every Democrat will make it an ob ject to extend our field of- operations b adding to our list ot subscribers. Tte low price of the Weekly in comparison with the amount of matter furnished, makes it one of the cheapest ot newspapers. We hope every good Democrat who rea ls this will send his name and J2 50 for a copy for one year. If this is toft much for those who are very poor, let all such end as fifty cents each, and receivb the 'Weekly Patriot t and Union for the campaign. The foiloir jng are the terms : . . Wood, Ed. and Proprietor The Democracy of the North will com mit a fatal error if they accept the result of the lata Presidential election as an indica tion from the hand of . Destiny to . relax lheir political action until the opening of the next campaign. The future welfare of the republic depends upon the, politic a zeal atid activity of the Democracy during the year 1865. The small majority of the popular vote that elected the Black Republican candi dates, considered in view of the extraordi nary resources- of the Administration for corruption and cpmpolsion, attests that the power of the Democracy, on a fair field, is equal to the vindication of Democratic principles. , There is one feature in the result of tha Presidential election that goes far to re concile the patriot to the hard fa'e of. his country under four years more of Black Republican misrule, fhe baleful meteor that' lingered ;n grief while in our political atmosphere has vanished for ever. War Democracy has fulfilled its mission of dis organization, and like any. other pestilence will be remembered, only for the evil it has done. The issue now before the people is the final struggle between Centeralizntion and Stales' Rights, and no journal is Democrat ic that is not the devoted champion of States' Rizhts, the paramount principle of the Democratic faith. The New York News need no testimony oeyonc its plain unalterable record lo sub sUmiate its claim to being and having been the mo-t earnest, able and consilient States' Rights Journal in the land. We have no excuses lo invent for modifications of sentiment, nor have . we to pit ad "ex pediency" in puliation of inconsistency. Oupnhhas been traiM forward. Our columns are telore the people, not a line in them that we would cancel nor senti ment we would recall, not an as.-eriion that requires an explanation, not a word that we regret io have ufered, not a prin ciple advocated that we have not stood by and will stand by to the last. Such has been our pa.-t record, so will be our future. We do not, however, ak the Democracy to sustain us in our mi-siou ai a reward for the service we have done, but in con sideration of the jroi:'d work that we pro pose to do. The litv Yoik News lor 1865 will not merely imitate its predecessors, t will excel them, ft shall be, rot only the truest exponent cf Democratic principle, but ihe best newspaper in the country. Heretofore it has had no superior as a ve hicle of news, hereafter it shall have no epial. In every department of journalism we have arrangrd that the News ball dis tance competition. It is the only Demo cratic newspaper in the metropolis that has the advantage of pnblNhina a daily issue with Ihe full dispatches of the Associated Press, and therefore its machinery for fur nishing a compiere record of events is more perfect than that of any of its Demo cratic eoiemprrarie. Nine have attempt ed latterly, to compete with it in the publi cation ot Souther.i intelligence, as qur system of exchange wiih Southern journals baffles the tagacity and enterprise of our rivals. A glance at the columns of The News devoed to "Southern and Northern per-sonal-r' will remark the extraordinary suj. cess that has attended our enterprise in that direction. We ar in daily receipt of letters exnressin? the thnnk of thee who, through the medium ol the 'Personals'' ii The News have been er.ifhled to rcceivs i iidi"rigs from their friends and relatives in ihe South, and the heart of many au exita and wanderer has been gladdened through that instrumentality by words of affection and hope lrom those mourned for as dead. The Naw York News has become so popular in the rural districts trim other Me tropolitan j umi;!, in publishing their stereotyped boat of "the largest circula tion of any weekly journal7' are constrain ed to make an exception in bur favor It is a significant circumstance that since the Presidential election and consequent de mise of War Democracy, the subscriptions to this paper hae been unu?uaily numer ous.
