The spirit and doctrine , of the two first volumes will be fully , maintained in the third vol a me. We. have no compro mises td make with error no parley with despotism. Democracy -will be treated, not as a varying policy of ccnnirg office seekers and spcil-h'onters, but ruther as an abiding principle of political economy and of popular liberty. Ail supporters of this revolutionizing, Abolition war, will be held as the enemies of the Democracy. We hall acknowledge no organization to be Democratic winch does noi .honestly enun. ciate and support the principles ol the Kentucky aud .Virginia Resolutions of 1793 sndtbe-Dred Scott Decision of the Su preme Court, the one asserting Stale Sov ertignly and (be other White supremacy. To preserve tbeee honorable doctrines, the Democratic party. was organized by the very founders of the Federal Government, and it remained true to them down to the .fatal and dishonoring departure, at the commencement of this war. The Old Guard is an organ of Democracy as it was, before this cowardly surrender of principle and'as h must be again, before it can. re deem oar conntry from, 'the rule of faction and despotism. Wood, Cd; and Froprictor Ij3 IT CD SSkOP H S3 The Democracy of the North will com mit a fatal error if they accept the result 6f he late Presidential election as an indica tion from the hand of Dextiny to relax their political action' until the openings o tthe next campaign. The future welfare o the republic depends upon the politics zeal and activity of the Democracy during the year 1865. " be 'small majority of the popular vote that elected the Black Republican candi dates, considered in view of trie extraordi nary resources of the Administration Tor corruption and cpmpolsion, attests that the power of the Democracy, on a fair field, is equal to iht vindication of Democratic principles. There is one feature in the result of the Presidential election that goes far to re concile the patriot to the bard fate of hi country under four years more of Black Republican misrule. The baleful meteor that lingered in grief while in our political atmosphere has vanished for ever. War Democracy has fulfilled its miosiorf of dis organization, and like any other 'pestilence will be remembered only for "the evil it has done. ' The itsue now before the people is the final struggle between Centeralizstion and States' Right?, and no journal in Democrat ic that is not the devoted champion of States' Rights, the paramount principle ol the Democratic faith. The New York News needs no testimony beyond its plain unalterable record to ub stantiate its claim to being and having been the most earnest, able and cotieWient States' Rights Journal in the land. .We have no excuses to invent for modification of tentimenlk nor have we to pit ad "ex pediency" iu palliation of inconsistency. Our path has been otraigM forward. Our column" are betote the people, not a line in thetu that we would cancel nor senti ment we would ' recall, not an assertion that requires an explaua.ion, not a word that we regret io have ur.ered. not a prin ciple advocated that we have not stood by and will stand by to tbe last. Such has been our past record, no will be our future. - We do not, however, ak the Democracy to sustain us in our mission as a reward for the service we have, done, but in con sideration of the zood work that we pro-pps-s to- do. The Nw Yoik News for. 1865 wilf oot merely imitate it predecessors, it will excel them. It shall be not only the liuesi exponent cf Demociatic principle, but the best netcxpaper in the country. Heretofore it ha had no superior as a ve hicle of new, hereafter it shall have no equal. In every department of journalim we have arranged that the News shall dis tance competition. It is the only'Demo cratic newspaper in the metropolis that has tbe -advantage of publishing a daily issue with the full dispatches of the Associated Press, and therefore its machinery for fur nishing a complete record of evenis is more perfect than that of any of i:s Demo cratic cotemporaries. None have attempt ed latterly, to compete with it in the publi cation of Souther. intelligence, as our system of exchange with Southern journals Lafiies the nagacity and enterprise of our rivals. A glance at th e columns ofTbe News devo ed to 'Souiheru and Northern personal.-!''' will remark tbe extraordinary sue ces that has attended our enterprise in that direction. We are in daily receipt of letters expressing the thanks of those who, through the medium ol ihe "Personals" in The News, have been enabled to receive tidings from their friends and relatives in the South, and the heart of many an exile and wanderer has been gladdened through that instrumentality by words of affection and hope Irom those mourned for as dead The New York News has become so popular io ihe rural di-tricts that other x1e tropolitan journals,' in publishing their stereotyped boast of "the Targest circula tion of any weekly journal7' are constrain ed to make an exception in our favor It is a significant circumstance that since the Presidential election and consequent de mise of War Democracy, the subscriptions to this paper have been unusually numer ous. The Agrictl.ura1 Department of The New York News renders it an invaluable companion and assistant to the farmer ; and its Cattle, lVlaiket and Produce Re ports are more reliable and full than those of any other journal.
