West end of Conjngbam twp., Columbia
county, have petitioned to the Legislature
for division in jiaid lownship. The Leg
islature refuse to act 'upon the ground thai
the Courts have jurisdiction ; anl since
' the adoption of a late amendment to the
Constitution, the Legislature, is prohibited
from legislating upoa matters where the
Courts have power. , . '
Accident. We learn that Isaac 8ones,of
Loporie twp.j Iwhile attempting to arresi
some deserters on Monday evening, instead
- of shootiDg the deserters, accidenlly dis
charged the cootenls cf the pistol into one
cf his own wrists. The only way we can
'account for this is, that he roust have shot
off the vrong end. It is, at any rate, a striking
' instance of I.aac being made a sacrifice for

An Elegant Korelly In Watchc?.
T.HE cases of this watch, are an pntirHy
new invention, composed of six different
matals combined, rolled together and
planished, prod ucin g an exact imitation
of 18 carat gold, called Arcana, which
will always keep its color. They are as
beantifuj and durable as solid gold, and
are afforded at one eighth the cost. The
case is beautifully designed, with Panel
and shield lor name, with Patent Push Pin,
and engraved In the exact style of the. cele
brated Gold Hunting Levers and are real
ly handsome and desirable, and so exact
an imitation of gold, as to defy detection.
The movement is manufactured by the
well known St. Jimer Watch Company of
Europe, and are superbly finished, having
engraved pallets, fancy carved bridges
adjusting regulator, with sold balanced,
and the improved ruby jewelled action
with the line dial and ekeleton hands, and
is warranted a good tine keeper. These
waches are of three different sizes, the
smallest being for ladies, and are all Hunt
ing Cases. A case of fix, will be sent by
