Tea Gold Exchasok. II the matter were
not fraught with the gravebt conse queuces
to the nafiorj, the impudence oi the Treaa
cry speculators would be amusing. The
whole of the facts may be stated in a few
words. The paper money has driven gold
and silver out of circulation The latter
has disappeared. No one wants it and it is
gooe. Gold is in demand to pay for the
guns, blankets, equipments topplied and
imported and sold to the Government in
common with a vast variety of goodscon
snmed in this -country. There is no means
of paying far them brtt gold. The paper
system has killed exports of prod ace. To
get the gold to meet engagements, the
most honorable, patriotic and responsible
merchants aad bankers of the city meet
every day, personally and b proxy, and
buy gold as cheap as they cao. This it lb
gold exchange. -
There also assemble a gang of rascally
Treasury pimps, agents, prowlers, casern
fulous persons ol all sort, who sell l(sborin
geld taat'.bey have net got. They are too
muddle headed to understand why gold goes
hp, and think they can lie it down. Tbey
bet little sums ea ba:a" and abuse the
wcoal hole," "the gambler,"as theychooae
to call the most honorable merchants of the
city.' Tbey preach and publish denuncia
tion of gold dealers, and call npoa Congress
to make the American name ridicolon by
tae passage of absard laws to sarpress the
freedom of traffic. To such lengths is this
poshed, that a renegade Soalherr.er who
endeaora to cloak his doubtful statas and
questionable acts by loul mouthed abase of
the merchant princes of this city, proclaim
ed that the bogus proclamation, got up by
an employee of The New York Times;
would be the means of passing the gold
bill before the Senate a bill so infamous
in its ch aracter that it weald eompet the
most honorable bankers to quit business,
because it wooIJaubject them to annoyance
by Irsudolenl accusations, lodged by com
men informers and other knaves, who seek
gain from the Treasury by attacking the
noblest and purest in the land'
In IbaHliosIst.
We frequently hear men who sustain by
iheir voiea and speech the abolition leaders
in their crusade agaiasl the Union and the
Constitution, exclaim (,b'ut f am not an Ab
olitionist." We are not ioclined to dispute
the word of such persons. Indeed, ia the
estimation of thinking men, they do not
rise to the dignity of abolitionist.. The
cat was not a monkey, O oo, it claimed
to be a nobler and more useful animal,
yet it suffered it paws to be burnt in pal
ling chestnuts ont of the fire for the monkey.
So with these simon pure republicans who
spurn the name of abolUtonist: they are
willing to i offer anything to get them the
chestnuts. The jackall that supplies the
lion with (ood is despised lor his assistance,
and seldom allowed to share ia the repast
he furnishes. So with these republicans
who profess to despise abolitionism, tbey
! are oai in taa sarae manner, aua are
equally ignored, except when their services
are needed to furnish the li en with food cr
the monkey with chestnut. Io "the history
we are making" they will occupy the unevi
table position of having materially aided a
party they profess to despise in destroying
the American Union.
"Tolt (or Cnrlla find Aroid a Draft.'
. This syren song catched many a gullible
one before the ' late election. They put
faith in the Loyal Leaguers who told them
this, and cot only this, but in. their League
circulars tbey said ; o 'ballot for Cortin is as
effective as a ballet in rebel heart.' This
political trick acocoplisbed, draft has follow
ed draft until 700,000 mea have been cal
led for since the Shoddyite's election. And
the end is not yet, for the intimation comes
from headquarters that another general con
scription tor 300,000 .men wili take p?ace
about the 1st f July. 1000,000 men in
nine mouths. And in the face of this we
were told that to 'elect Cart in there would
be oo draft.' We knew at ibe time they
asserted a falsehood, mad told them so, for
which we were pronounced 'disloyal' But
time is an avenger. Our words hare proven
troe while the Loyal Leajaera hare proven
themselves but as tricksters and falsifiers
before ibe people. Danville lutdligtnctr.
