IT IS A SIX PER CENT LOAN, THE Interest and Principal payable in Coin, thus yielding over Nine per cent, per an nurn at the present rate of premium on Coin. So that it is hoped that the surplus Coin in the Treasury, at no dis'ant day, will enable the United States to re sume specie payments upon all liabilities. The Loaj is called 5 20 from the fact that whilst Ihe Bonds may run for twenty years yet the Government has a right to pay them off in Gold at par, at any time aiier five years. The Interest is paid half yearly, viz: on the first day of November and May. Subscribers can have Coupon Bonds, which are payable to bearer, and are S50, S100, 5500, and 1000; or Registered bonds of same denominations, and in addition, $5,000 and $10,000. For Banking purpo ses and for investments of Trost monies, the Registered bond are preferable. These 5-20 's cannot be taxed b) States cities, towns, or counties, and the Govern menl tax on them is only 1 J per cent., on the amonnt of income, when the income of the holder exceeds Six hundred dcl'ars per annum: all other investments, such "as income from Mortgages, Railroad S:ock and Bonds, e c, must pay from three to five percent, tax ori the income.
