UNITED STATES 3-20 $.
The Secretary of the Treasury has not
yet given notice of anj intention to with
draw this popular Loan from Sale at Par,
and aniil ten days notice is given, the
undersigned, as "General Subscription
Agent,''- will continue to supply the public.
The whole amount of the Loan author
ized is Five Hundred Millions of Dollars.
Nearly Four Hundred Millions have been
already subscribed for and paid into the
Treasury, mostly within the last seven
mon.hs. Tbe large demand from abroad,
and the rapidly increasing home demand
for use as the basis for circulation by Na
tional Banking Associations now organiz
ing in all pans of the country, will, in a
very short period absorb Ihe balance.
Sale have lately ranged from ten tofif
teeu millions weekly, frequency exceed
ing three millions daily, and as it is well
known thai the Secretary of the Treasury
has ample and unfailing resources in the
Duties on Imports and tenia! Revenues,
and in the i?sue of the Interest bearing
Legal Tender Treasury Notes, it is almost
a certainty that be will not find it neces
saay, for a Long time to come, to seek a
market for any other long or permanent
Loans, The IniereM and Principal of which
are payable in Gold.
Prudence and self interest must force
the minds of those contemplating the for
mation of National Banking Associations,
as well as the minds of all who have idle
money on their hands, to the prompt con
clusion that they should lose r.o time in
subscribing to this rfto-t popular Loan.
It will soon be beyond their reach, nd
advance to a handsome premium, as was
the result with the "Seven Thirty" Loan,
when it was all sold and could no longer
be subscrided for at par.
IT IS A SIX PER CENT LOAN, THE
Interest and Principal payable in Coin,
thus yielding over Nine per cent, per an
num at the present rate of premium on
Coin.
The Government requires all duties on
Imports to be paid in coin; thnse duties
have for a long time past amounted to
over a Qjarter of a Million of Dollars
daily, a sum nearly three times greater
than that required in the payment of the
Interest on all the 5-20's and other perma
nent Loans. So that it is hoped that the
surplu Coin in the Treasury, at iio dis ant
day, wjll e'.rf'jle the United States to re
sume specie payments upon al) liabilit.es.
The Loan i6 eal.ed 5 20 from the tact
that whilst the Bonds may run foi twenty
years yet the Government has a right to
pay them off in Gold at par, at any time
alter five years.
The Interest is paid half yearly, viz: on
the first day ot November and May.
Subscribers can have Coupon Hinds,
which are payable to bearer, and ate 50,
100, S500, and SlOOQ; or Registered bonds J
of 6tme denominations, and in addition, j
sajUuu auu oiu, uuv. rui uatiKiiig purpo
ses and lor investments of Trust monies,
the Registered bonds are preferable.
These 5-20't cannot be taxed by States,
cities, towns, or counties, and the Govern
ment tax on them is only l per cent., on
the amount of income, when the income
ol the holder exceeds Six hundred dolla rs
per aniiuin; all other investments, such as
income from Mortgages, Railroad Siock
and Bonds, e c, musi pay from three to
five percent, lax on the income.
Banks and Bankers throughout the coun
try will continue to dispose of the bonds;
and all orders by mail, or otherwise, prom
ptly attended to.
The inconvenience of a lew days' delay
in the delivery ot the Bonds is unavoida
ble, the demand being so great; but as in-terui-t
commences from the day of sub
scription, no loss is occasioned, and every
effert is being made to diminish the delay.
