were addressed by Rev. David C. John, on
Friday evening last, in the Court House.

call of the Governor.
The Teach rs' Association of Columbia
county had a meeting in the Arademy at
this place, Saturday last. The attendance
. was tolerably good. We have not jet re
ceived the minutes, for publication. - We

Day-Book for 1864. -This journal is one of
ihu most ably conducted papers in the
United Stale?, and in fact is almost the only
paper we hare that deals Democratically on
the negro question. It is just the paper for

the recent election was the banner county.
The "woolyheads"1 had but 70 vo:e, and
the Democrats 1,184, being a little more
than four to one- Monroe count comes
next, in which the Democrats had 2,712 to

Pennsylvania, threatened '., to. ' discharge
every one of the employees in that Institu
tion, who did not vote for Curtin. The
Democrats ire indignant; they may be,
but they onglit not to be surprised, for an
Insane Asylum is jost the place where they
ought to expuci voles for Curtin.
Dictator : The Prisident has caused an
order to be read to the Army, threatening
Vie soldier with the severest punishment
for speaking disrespectfully of him. When
the great Ceesar declared himself Dictator,
in Rome, ha did not take 6uch precaution

a host of others. "With McClellan as our
leader," we are sure to be victorious. He
is all that is required a statesman, scholar,
soldier and a christian. A man the people
love, because they know' lim to be a pure
patriot, and an honest man.
Counterfeit Fiftt Cent Notes Many
persons do not know the counterfeit fifty
cent postaf currency from the genuine.
There are marks on the spurious that,' il
observed, will at once show the counterfeit.
On the counterfeit the final '"E" in the
words "U. S. Postage," over the head of
Wahiug'on. is dropped, and the first letter
''S" in the wo'id . 'Treasurer's" extends
higher op than the other letters. Another
test is that in the spurious the Y" in the
word "Depository" does not touch the border-on
the back of note. Attention to these
directions will prevent persons being im
pose J upon by the counterfeit.

lar United Stares Army. Lieut. D., is the
youngest sop of our former ' townsman.
Charles II . Doebler, Esq , of Williamsport,
Pa. This merit of honor to a brave and
