Sheriff, in Luzerne county, over a combi
nation of forces. He beat Tripp and
Lawell, some 2100 votes.

The Fair at this placelai week was well
attended, continumg for days. The re

the Soc iety. The Fair considering the stale

Hale carries the Clinton district for Con
press over Armstrong by about 12C0 maj.
Both ire Republicans, Armstrong having
the regular nomination, while Hale ran as
an independent candidate. Hale is their
old member. The defeat is a just rebuke
in Armstrong. The people owed him a
debt aid they longed for an opportunity to
trance! it, wVich they did on Tuesday of
last wire it.
The -draft passed oil in this -county on
Thursday. On Monday men began tore
port substitutes from various parts of the

move made towards taking the men away.
The rendezvous will be, Philadelphia, Pitts
burn and Harrisburg. We may leave this

Hcblet GrjAKDs. Since th resignation
of Capt. Frick and Lieutenants Ent and
McDowell, mis company has been officered
as follows: Captain. Joaeph J. Vaughn,
who furnished the company with 40 men ;
Lieutenants, A. G. Thornton, and J. W
Hunter. The first Lieutenant. Mr. Thorn
ton, h,is been Orderly Sergeant in the com
pany uver since its formation, over a year a
ago. He well deserves the place. He is
from Light Street, this county. Capt.
Vaughn is an old sokiier, having been in
the service some eight years. The Com
pany is in a better condition at present than
it hits been for some time. They belong to
tbe gallant 84th, Col Bowman.
Pew so naj.. Capt. Alex. J. Frick, of Co. D,
of the famous. Eighty -foirth Regiment, ar
rived in the city yesterday. Capt. Frick
has been with the regiment since its for
mation; He has been engaged in much
hard lervice, has been through the namer
ous bittles in which the Eighty-fourth has
teeu im greatly distinguished, and' has be
come so broken down in health thai he was
compelled to resign. The Captain is a
brave and gallant soldier, and regrets ex
ceedingly that be was unable to continue at
his post until the rebellion is crashed. He
is accompained by U. fl. Ent, the First
Lieutenant of the same company, who was
also obliged to resign on account of ill
health. The Lieutenant was yesterday the
recipient of a very handsome caue, the gift
olCapt Frick.. Ext Bulletin.
Governor Curtin, upon application to the
War Department, has been authorized to
permit drafted men to become volunteers
lor three years. This is an important move,
as it probabfy entitle those who change
their time ot service from nine months to
three years, to the bounty ,advance pay and
premium, and is worthy of the considerat
ion cf drafted men. These in this neigh
borhood who prefer going into the volunteer
service can do eo by applying to Lieut.
Geo. W. Utt, at the Exchange Hotel, who
is recruiting men for Battery F, 2nd Pa ,
Artillery, stationed at Fort Lincoln, near
Washington. Tb'n is the most desirable
branch of the service.- Their business u
to garrison Forts, principally. Any person
having a desire to join this service would
do well to attach himself to Battery F. Capt.
McCIure's Company, mostly men from this
couui.y. This is a good opportunity, anp
may be the last one. '
