ST! R OF THE NORTH KJLOOMSKUllti, PA. Wednesday Sorniuf, July fd, 1362. Thu number of our paper finishes the half of. Volume 14 ol the Str. Thb Epitoh of this paper expect to be absent from his post, after tbe 3rd instant, abont a week. It you saw a new hat that suited you, in a store window, would you go by it'ofigo buy it? Andrew H Dill, Esq ,'of Lbwisburg. will deliver an oration at the national celebration in Berwick on tbe 4th. The Star contains two letters written by our regular army correspondent, Toodlgs, on the 16th and 19th nit., which ought to bate reached us better than a week aao. The Democratic Slate Convention as sembles at Hani-burg on the 4th of July. Several of our Democratic friends from old Colombia will be in attendance. The war news this week has so far been rather megre there has been considerable fightingbut not any great amount of par ticulars made public. Cherries begin to come into our market in a bundance. . There is any amount ol fruit coming on this seamen. A larger.crop than -has been yielded in this section for a comber of years. The 4th in Bloornsburg, from present in dications, will be a quiet one. We know not of even a Sabbath school celebration to take place at Bloornsburg, the coming 4ih. A great many of our people are going to other places to celebrate the day. A Boat will leaye "Port NobFa wharf, at 5 o'clock on the raoring ot the 4th, for the purpose of conveying a Military Company, of this place, to Berwick, to -participate in the Sham Battle. The boat will be able to take many others besides the company who may wish to go. Fare 25c op and back. Lieut. R. B. Rick kits arrived at this place on Tuesday last on his way to Orangeville, where his parents reside. He left his bat tery at Msuassas Junction a lew days ago. He i brother to Col. W. W. Ricketts who is lying at home very ill. The Lieut, looks admirably well, and is apparently in first rate spirits. He intends returning to his 'command in a lew ''day's. Da. John in his last issue called Vallan oingbam a "aiggar worshipper" and in the same article a "tory' and a "traitor." Just as we have, always said. All "ijegro wor shippers" are traitors. Doctor John and Va'landiahara may nuke a very nice team 'to look at, but we do r ot tbiuk many peo p'a would llrke 10 tfds behind ;t. It is de- ridtdly a ouehorte affair, Vailandigham leing a colt, wild and Iraciious, the doctor 'beii.g au A (ss) Bad team tha. Da. John doirt seem ro regard at all the -advice ol his "valued friends" as to notic ing the Star and the Democrat It seems he -places a higher estimate upon ihe-influence "of these l wo journals than these same Iriends of his ; lor in hi last weeks isssue be devotes no less than eleven trtic'e- to 'ourself and neighbor. Tnat is 'right. Doctor. Don't let the cowardice of your "friends'' control you. Pitch in. H'ethaU "continue to do so. Thk speech of Hon. Ben. Wood of New York, will be found on the first page of the Star. Our Abolition opponents have fount4 a good deal of fault with Ben. Wood ever since the war commenced. He is a little too lonstiluiional for them sticks too close to old Democratic land mark". He sets that through the intervention of the Demo cratic party tbe Conli!ulion as it is, and the Union as it tens, may yet be preserved, it there is any hope for it at all. This is what his Abolition friends hate him for ibis is why a Committee of the House was ap pointed to examine into his loyalty. THEquestiorl of Senatorial Delegate from this District was left unsettled at the last Conferee meeting, which met in Danville, a short time go. It will be for the Con ven tion to decid.3. We feel sure that Col. Jno. O. Freeze, ol Columbia co., will be addmit ted to a seat in tbe Convention as the Sena torial Delegate from this District. The way we understand .the matter the aJ mission if Mr. Freeze would be no more than righ', and would give general satisfaction to tbe great mass of the Democracy of the District, besides bis services be a valuable acquisi tion to tbe deliberations ot -the Convention. Can't the ediiors of the Democrat and Star te induced to speak the truth for once? Do so for the novelty of the thing, il for no ttber motive. Even a little of the, article, now and then, plainly and fairly told, would materially add to the interest of their pa pers. Try it. Columbia County Republu an. It will be seen from the above that Dr John persists in his peculiar way of arguing questions. You lie is tbe beginning of hi argument ; you lie, is thd middle ; you lie is the end. But does he point out wherein ve lie I Nury timet People will draw heir own conclusions as to bis calibre a3 a logician, and bis honesty as a journalist. Ths Republican of last week is hot as Hack as csual ; we suppose some of those friends of tbe Doctor, of whom be spoke a week or 13 ago, as guiding and directing bira in his coursd&s a journalist, hate told biro it wouldn't do. Be plucky, Doctor ; everybody knows ytfa are" an original abo ponist; yon will not deny it, and you fecld give tbesa off.ciouS friands, who "-n-bt yoo to Bloornsburg and established 'i "as their mouth-piece, to understand yoa are for "free speech, a fre"3 press, 3 soil ard freedom-" If they are not, on rcJheais bait.
