their respective offices, which in many in
stances hag not been done heretofore. It is
highly necessary that there should 'be a ie-
form in many of one local matters, and the
oidy way to accomplish that object is to give
the above ticket your entire and hearty sup

and qualifications unquestioned. It ought
to succeed.
Amsther Victort. Island No. 10 has
been taken by onr forces. This 'Island is
ten miles above new Madrid in the Missis
sippi river, and about fifty-five miles from
Cairo. The rebels are said to have been
fjom 15,000 to 20,000 s roug and their po
silioii at this Island a rtrong one. The place
was taken after a fight with all of the ena
mj'ii ammunition and transportation The
loss of lives on either side we, are not yet
informed.
Our army has gained another victory in
Arkansas, in which there were three rebel
Colonels captured The particulars of this
event has not yet reached us. Thus one
after another out army is crowning itsell
with victories, and those too of no minor
importance
The rebel Jackson is still retreating in Vir
ginia. Our army will keep him at that on
til fey gel him out of the State. McCleN
lan's iorces are snre to give him some
trouble to keep o.l of their reach.
