Wp tlM nr take in twm ey enoagh to buy a bundle of paper. This won't do gentlemen Hon. Charles R. Bcckalw, late Minis er at Qaito, South America, has returned with family to this his native county. We understood he paid out town a vwit on Monday last . -It is raid that be looked hale nd hearty. William Sharpless, of Cattawissa, has our thanks for those large and luscious Watermelons left at ovr office on Tuesday last. V are told that he raises large quan tities of them on an Island in the Sosq. Lanna river. The; e sf the best quality. Wk are pleased to state that, as far as we can learn, the ticket formed in the Demo cratic Convention, at this place, on Mon day of last week, seems to meet the gener al approbation of the Democracy of Co lumbia county. It is composed in a great measure ot true and tried men. and should, and we have no doubt will receive the un divided support of every democrat in the county. The editor of the Republican, of this place, in last week1 paper, endeavors to make it appear that the Democrats are a set of theives. He informs his reader, very mod ef.ly too. that lie attended the "Democratic pow-wow," meaning the Democratic Coun ty Contention, and that before going he locked op hi pocket-book ! This is a gross insult to the honest and loyal peep!e of Col ombia county. He locked up his pocket txok ! Wc were shown, a few days since the Washington Ukitxd State Map, by Mr. J. D. Thi Map contains more information than any other one yet published of these United States lis marginal information alone i worth halt the price of the Map. Among the many little points of information upon this Map are the following, as near as we can re member from looking over it : Height of Mountains in the United State as exposed in feet above the sea ; Time Table.sbowing the variation of "time at a large number of places mentioned on the map when it is 12 o'clock at Washington city: a geological Msp of the United States ; a Map of Tern perature, giving the annual fall of rain, etc.; ft Map explaining the Zoological distriba tion of the United State; a .map giving the distribution of the different staples of the United Sta'e ; a table of air tine distances between the largest places of the Union, computed from the latest observations of their longitudes and latitude ; aIo a band none view of the Capitol at Washington, which was threatened so furiously by the rebels not long since. The price of this Msp is 57 .Oo. It i well worth the money. We notice that the ln!elliga.ccr and Re publican, published at Tunkhannock, Wyo ming county, have filed their objections to our having stated that, the Hon. Wm. M Piatt, of that place, had addressed Peace Meetings, in that coanty, in company with the Hon. R. R. Little and E. B. Chase. They inform as that Mr. Piatt 'has done oo such thing,"and that he ''stands where near iy all ;be Douglas Democrats of that county stand, and where every true Democrat is, with the Government." We are the last man to do injustice to friend Piatt, and if ' we have placed bim in a wrong position we cheerfully make the correction. A word about these Meetings in 'this county. These meetings here are largely attended, and by men of all parties. The people with as are all for the Union of these tates, and are warm supporters of the Gov ernment and Laws, and we take it, have evebeen. The Democratic party has al ways been a Union party and has home for year the sneers and taantsof the opposition by being called "Union savers." It comes with a bad grace from this Republican par ty, when they call v$ lories, traitors, and se cessionists ; and claim that thoy are now the Union pcrty when ther should not lorget ocly a short time ago they carried the banner containing but sixteen start with the fifteen Soethern States erased.
