A New Democratic Morning Paper.
"the Union."
With a view to meet a universally ad
mhted want, ihe undersigned will issue on
Monday, the 1st of July next, a Morning
Penny Paper, to be called "THE UNION."
The great mission of the Democratic
Parly, which has ever stood as the bulwark
of the Union and the Champion of the
Constitution, renders its entire unity and
bold attitude in this hour of National peril
a matter of vital concern. The pending
slrugale is not less for the maintenance of
a Un ted Country than for the Perpetuation
of Democratic principles, as expounded by
Jefferson and Jackson. Tne most momen
tous result hang upon the issue. Mere
party questions are for the time by com
mon const nt adjounred. 7e past is dead,
save iu its lessons ol experience.
The Democratic hou have not shrunk
from their full share in the responsibilities
and (.'auger of the emergency. They have
ral'ied with one accord around the eland
ard ol oui common country. But iho oc
casion imposes other duties. The Govera
rnent will demand and receive tbe willing
support cf every patriot, in its efforts to vin
cica'.o the National honor and re-assert the
National authority ; but the Preservation of
Constitutional Liberty rests more with the
pecple than vvi h Congress and Cabinet.
Vigilance and Unity are therefore especial
ly requisite in the present juncture.
It is the puri ote of ihe Proprietors to
make "THE UNION," in every respect a
fut cla-s Journ.il. The Democracy of the
whole State feel the need ol a bold and
vigorous Metropolitan daily ; and no elf?rt
will be spared t: render "THE UNION"
bo h popular and etFicient as a newspaper,
and as a fearless exponent of the great
principles for wh'ch thu Democratic party
have ever c&i. tended, and which are now
(0 Unhappily imperilled.
The Proprietors have perfected such ar
rangements as wiil place the enterprise,
from ihe brtuinin n 1;, upon a tobsiai.tial
business bais, wnti abundant means to
make a Newpapr second in interest and
ability to no ether iu the city : and while
the paper will be fearlessly Democratic, it
will sedulously avoid all faction, as the
deadliest bane lo party effir iency.
We look to the DEMuCRATIC MASSES
for t-unport, and fhall labor to make "THE
UNION" in every way worthy their confi
dence and liberal patronage, as a fresb,
readable and tearless Journal.
