the mines at the slope, on Tuesday morn

Mr Wm. Remphrey. was dangerously if
not fatally injared. Both his eyes were
destroyed, and his body and arras badly
mutilated. Dr.'Pursell did all that could be
done for the unforvV-iate raau. But, we
presume it will be in vain.
The Republican of this place, talks con
eiderably about the Breckinridge party of
this district having a ' Pill" to swallow in
the nomination of Col. Wrisbt. We, as a
Breckinridger, should think from the howl
the Republican has kept op since the elec
tion, that the Breckinridge parly swallowed
the "pill" wi:b much more ease than did
the Republican party. The Breckinridge
party io this section are Union Democrats,
and they recognize no insinuations tu the
contrary in the Republican.

A New Democratic Mo ri.ic Paper.
"THE UNION."
With a view to meet a universally ad
mitted want, the undersigned will issue on
Monday, the 1st of July next, a Morninz
fenny faper, to be called "THE UNION."
The great mission oi the Democratic
Party, which hps ever stood as the bulwark
of the Union and the Champion of the
Constitctiox, renders its entire unity and
bold altitude in this hour of National per'.l
a matter of vital concern. The pending
stni2gle is not less for the maintenance of
a Un ted Country than for the Perpetua'ion
of Democratic principles, as expounded by
J efferson and Jackson. The most momen
tous result hang upon the issue. Mere
party questions are lor the time by com
mon consent adjounred. The past is dead.
save in its lessons of experience.
The Democratic ho-ts have not shrunk
from their full share in the responsibilities
and dangers of the emergency. They have
ral'ied with one accord around the stand
ard oi our common country. But tho oc
casion imposes other duties. The Govern
ment will demand and receive the willing
support of every patriot, in its efforts to vin
oicate the National honor and re-asert the
National authority ; but the Preservation of
Constitutional Liberty rests more with the
people than wiih Congress and Cabinet.
Vigilance and Unity are therefore especial
ty requisite in tne present juncture.
It is the porpote of the Proprietors to
make "THE UNION." in every respect a
first clas Journal. The Democracy of the
whole Siate feel the need of a bold and
vigorous Metropolitan daily ; and no effort
will be spared to render "THE UNION"
both popular and efficient as a newspaper,
and as a fearless exponent of the great
principles for which the Democratic party
have ever contended, and which are now
so unhappily imperilled.
The Proprietors have perfected such ar
rangements as will place the enterprise,
from the beginning, upon a substantial
business basis, wih abundant means lo
make a Newspaper second in interest and
ability te no other in ;ha city; and while
the paper will be fearlessly Democratic, it
will sedulously avoid all faction, as the
deadliest bane to party efficiency.
We look to the DEMOCRATIC MASSES
for support, and shall labor to make "THE
UNION" in every way worthy their confi.
dence and liberal patronage, as a heb,
readable and fearless Journal.

The conniry location of this Seminary in
a plessant village, in a healthy and flourish

where the pupil are not surrounded by

many other localities, with no outside in
fluences to divert their attention from liter

found surrounding large schools and acad
