BLOOM SBURG, PA.

Col. Wkight's majority in Luzerne coun

Wi presume the person who was sent
oat with tickets over oar route . last week,
found them all rijht.
1 OVa Colombia couRTT'farmera have com

little cut last week. The ras as well as
tne gram is oacswaru mis Beason wuii u.-.
In oor next we will publiah an article on
"light artillery, which on account of a press
'of other matter we are compelled to omit
''in this issue.
The return Judges of the different coon-

tie in this Congressional District w:u meet
at the Court House, in this place, on Sat
ur Jay next.
Thams from the Editor and larafly are
'tendered a serenading party that visited our
residence on Tuesday evening last. Ihe
music was excellent.
Thebx seems to be a good deal of earn
restness exhibited on trTe part of our citizens
to have a Fourth ot July celebration, in this
place. They will have it. The thing is
'"bound to come off.
Some of the citizeas of Jerseytown be
came very jubilant over the success of Col.
Wright's election io Congress, lhose wno
felt best over the result, procured powder
and fired thirteen rounds with a cannon.
The official vote of this county will be
seen in to-day's paper. Col. Wright has a
'handsome majority over Randall, the Vol
unteer candidate, who was started out by
some of the dissatisfied ones in Luzerne
"county.
Arthur's Home Magazine is emphatical-
ly a publication of rare merit. We have
"reffctence to the literature in particular.
Although, otherwise it is equal, if not supe
Vior to all other two dollar Magazines. The
July number lies opo& our table.
We have receiveJ a copy of the fir3t re-
port ol the Board of Directors of the Catta
wissa Railroad Company to the Stockhol-
' tiers for '.860. It shows, up the condition
of the road satisfactory. ,Thia road is doing
about as'weiris roost railroads, especially
rjf its capacities.
In Scott township two ballots were cast
' for C. Barton, for Congress. We were nol
aware that Mr. Barton was a candidateand
are inclined to think that he was not, bat
; suppose the votes were cast' for him with a
' Yiew of having some sport with the old
gentleman.
Printers in the War. No profession
has shown more loyalty to the Stars and
r Strip, since the call for volunteers was
"first issued, than the heroes of the "stick
and rule." Almost every printing office in
'this State has furnished iis' recruiis.
Democratic Association. We are reques
ted to notice through the Star, that there
?ill be a regular meeting of the members
ot the Democratic Association at their
'rooms, on Tuesday evening. July 2nd, 1861.
Those who have not already paid their sub
scriptions ase respectfully requested to do
'so. A good attendance is expected. I
FoVrth is Bloomsborg. Preparations
are being made to celebrate the coming
Fourth in tins place. '"Quite a number of
'Committees have been appointed to make
ill necessary arrangements. Speakers have
'been engaged for the occasion. The pro
gramme is nol yet completed. It will .be
'published in our nnxt.
Couktt Fair From the managers of the
Montour County Agricultural Society; we
'leurn there will be no annual; fair or exhi
bition this season; as it is deemed improp
er to take tbe appropriation from the coun
ty treasury and incur the expenses of a fair,
"under the present state of the country.
This coarse is emiuetlj proper. Moi.tour

Wc see it announced in tbe Democrat
that a son of Jacob Remley, of this 'place,
'aged about ll years, accidentally fell into
tbe canal near Bloom Furnace, on Tuesday
tfternoon of last week, and was drowned.
THis body was not found until late in the
'evening of saiJ day.
Dr. P. JoHN,of tbe Republican, asks os why
'we did not publish Col. Wright's letter of
acceptance. We would state that i did not
appear in the Wilkesbarre papers until
Wednesday, the day we publish our paper,
be nee the reason u was 'not in the Star last
week. The Doctor ought to have known
that mnch. We would now ask the Doctor
qaestien. Vhy did you not publish he
proceedings of your Republican Coufer
"ence, which was in session one whole day
and tbe belter part of a nignt, in Wilkes
barre, on the 13th inst., before they con
curred in the nomination of our chosen can
'didate, CoI.JV right '
Wc see by hand-bills that one hundred
Wcrults are wanted to fill the Zouave Artil
le'ry Regiment, under command of Col.
James Brady and Charles Campbell, now
in Camp Curtin, at Harrisburg. Captain
Mathews and Lieutenant RickeUs, are in
this section at present for the purpose of
recruiung men. . Recruits in and about this
f lace, will report themselves to Lieut. B.
Kicketts, at the Exchange Hotel. The men
-- will b'a sworn i.nd mustered into service
ender the Stale reqaisition for three years
br daring the war. It i3 much more de&ir
&b!a io join a light artillery company, than
Infantry. Ths afr.btinl of labor to bb per
formad bj artillery men differ very materi
fc!!y from that r'eqsirad of the Infantry sol
diL-r l aving no bucket, he is rot requir

iachnsnts elf the Infantry are pacing back

Weary nigUt, the artillerymen are sleeping
qg'tetly in their quarters. Therefore .we
