STAROF THE NORTH. BLOOM S B U R G , PA. Wednesday Eorcing, April 17, 1861. - Wood Wood! noma owing patron will please bring os a load of good dry wood. .Those of oar pa"rous who do not gat their paper will please inform us. ' . Ooa Patrons will pay early attention to their bills as rent to them by as. We mast hare money to meat our indebtedness. The finest lot of fat calile we have seen in a long time passed through this place the early part of this week. Columbia County farmers are busily engaged patting in their oats, and looking towards the preparation of their corn ground. This section was visited, on Saturday last, by a fine rain, which has started up the grabs quite smartly. Habtmcx Broth cas, hare supplied them selves with spring and summer Goods, and Are celling at moderate prices. We are in daily receipt of the Philadel phia Evening Argun ; but always receive it a day after its publication, on account of its being an ever.ing paper- A morning isue would suit this section much better. - Stephen 31. Miller, is having his store room repaired, and improved in several re pects. He Iesigns going to the city, to lay in a stock of New Goods in a short time. Ha is also making Arrangements to take in -a partner. Howard Association, Philadelphia Pa. This well known Benevolent Association has proved itself, by a long course of hon orable dealing, to be a perfectly reliable and highly useful Institution. We com mend it to the public attention with much confidence. See advertisement. " Ooa young friend, L. T. Sharpless, has just returned from the city ol Philadelphia, where he has bee a replenishing his already 'respectable stock of Goods. In our next ,we may be able to announce the arrival, and enumerate the chief articles comprising his eiock. We were informed to-day, Tuesday, that a fire broke out in the Caltawissa Paper Mill, in this County. We are pleased to state that it was quenched before doing much damage. How the fire originated is a secret. It started among a pile of rags, where no fire is kept. Those of oar patrons who ask a discon tinuance of their papes, we would have un derstand, that, we do not discontinue any jpaper until all arrearages are paid, unless vre deem the patron entirely worthless, aud jn that case we need no notice to discon tinue, as we are in the habit of discontin uing all such without notice. Miss Mart Barklet has made known the fact through the Star of the North that she has replenished her stock of Millinery .goods, and at the same time invites the .public to come and make an examination of the same. She has everything in her line that the public may demand, and from all j accounts can sell a little cheaper than her -competitors. See card. I publishing onr list of non paying pa . Irons, in our last paper, we made a lew mis takes. The name of J. D. McHeury oc--carred in the list, which was purely an 'Oversight on the part of the printer. We -know no man by that name, hence he does riot owe os. We believe if there lives a .person by that name be would be honora ble enough to pay os promptly. By a care ful examination of the list, it will be seen t&at a name has been inserted in place of 'the one referred to ; also one other name has beet removed Irora the list, on account of the person being dead, wtrch fact we were not aware of at the time preparing the list. It appears that the President has called aa extra session ol Congress to convene on :the 4th day of July next. This being the case the people of this district will be called -upon to hold an election to fill the vacancy existing previous to that time. The Gov. error of cot Slate will notify the different "SberLfls, in the several Counties composing ihia Congressional district, to issue their rp reclamations fcr a special election. This electron may take place in June next or sooner. It then becomes necessary lor the Democracy to make a good and judicial choice intheir nominee, a man who iafor the Union at all hazards . The Republicans in this place, seem to rejoice over the demise of the Daily Penn sylvanian, especially the quill maa . of the Republican. The Pennsylvania has always been an attentive guardian of the interests of the Democratic party. No corrupt meas tus was allowed o pass unnoticed, or de nounced and condemned, in the moot hon orable and patriotic manner. The Black Republican party, feared no organ more lhan the Pennsylvania. It showed them op to a gazing world in all their nakedness to a iUUe better advantage lhan most pa pers, hence their hatred of it. It might be gratifying to some of our Democrats, but not very consoling to the Republicans, to know that arrangements are being made to start it again. Death or as old Crnzcs. On last Mon day morning, after several years of extreme debiiiaiioa, Wra. McCarty, a well known and prominent citizen, died in Sanbury, at tha advanced age of 73 years. Mr. Mc Carty had at an early day been one of the rr.cst enterprising and extensive book pub lishers its Philadelphia.
